METSEPM5110 – a Schneider Electric PowerLogic PM5110 panel-mounted three-phase power meter/analyser, CT operated (1 A or 5 A secondary), in a 96x96 mm enclosure with a 128x128-pixel LCD display and an RS485 Modbus port. Designed for energy metering and power quality monitoring at incoming and distribution panels in industry, commercial buildings and infrastructure, where you need to see not only kWh but also power, power factor, harmonics and alarms.
Key idea:
An ordinary meter tells you how much energy was consumed; a power meter/analyser tells you why the bill or the load looks the way it does. The PM5110 delivers current, voltage, active, reactive and apparent power, frequency, power factor, THD up to the 15th harmonic and 33 configurable alarms from a single device, and transmits it all over an RS485 Modbus bus. The 0.5S-class active energy accuracy to IEC 62053-22 means the data can be relied on both for internal cost allocation and for the conclusions of an energy audit.Rated current (via CT)

RS485 ModbusAccuracy class
class 0.5S (active energy to IEC 62053-22)How it works
The analyser does not measure the load current directly – each phase conductor passes through a current transformer (e.g. 400/5 A), and the device's current inputs receive a secondary current of 1 A or 5 A (measurement range 10 mA…9 A). Voltage is measured directly from the busbars, or through voltage transformers when the network exceeds 690 V. The device performs digital signal analysis and calculates all network parameters in 1P+N, 3P and 3P+N configurations, over a frequency range of 45–65 Hz.
Results are shown on the 128x128-pixel LCD display and simultaneously made available in Modbus registers over the RS485 port. The digital output (1 DO) can be configured as an energy pulse output or an alarm relay – for example, to signal an exceeded power level, a low power factor or phase loss. The device is powered separately, from 100–415 V AC or 125–250 V DC, so a fault in the measuring circuit does not switch off the analyser itself.
What makes the METSEPM5110 worthwhile?
Instead of several separate instruments – an ammeter, a voltmeter, a meter and an alarm relay – a single 96x96 mm panel window is enough. The engineer gets a complete view of the network, on site and remotely, and 33 alarms allow a problem to be caught before it turns into downtime or a fine for reactive energy.Technical specifications

Use by need
For the domestic user.
A PM5110 is rarely needed in a domestic panel – it's designed for currents via CT and needs a separate power supply. For a household with its own transformer substation or a large workshop supply it can be valuable as a full network parameter device, but a modular meter is enough for simple kWh counting.For businesses and industry.
This is the main tool for seeing the structure of energy costs and network quality: which workshop consumes the most, when the power peaks occur, whether the power factor is causing fines, and whether harmonics are overheating a transformer. Data travels via Modbus into a SCADA or energy management application.For electricians / engineers.
When specifying, set the CT ratio and secondary current (1 A or 5 A), check that the phase voltage does not exceed 400 V (otherwise use voltage transformers), and plan a separate power supply circuit and an RS485 bus. The device is mounted into a 92x92 mm panel cut-out, 72 mm deep.Practical example
At a manufacturing plant's 630 kVA transformer substation, a PM5110 is fitted on the low-voltage supply with 1000/5 A current transformers. An alarm is configured for when the power factor drops below 0.92, with the DO output signalling a controller. Over a month, the engineer sees from the Modbus registers that reactive energy amounts to 28% of active energy, and on this basis selects a 150 kvar compensation unit – the reactive energy fine disappears the very next month.
Pros
- One device instead of several – meter, ammeter, voltmeter, THD and alarms in a 96x96 mm window.
- Class 0.5S – high active energy accuracy to IEC 62053-22.
- Wide voltage range – up to 690 V phase-to-phase directly, without voltage transformers.
- Separate AC/DC supply – keeps working even if the measured voltage is lost; can be powered from 125–250 V DC.
- Standard Modbus – integration with any SCADA or BMS, with no extra licences.
- Resistant to the environment – operating temperature up to +70 °C, IP52 front.
Cons / limitations
- Current transformers are required – bought separately and must be matched to the 1 A or 5 A secondary.
- No digital inputs – states or pulses from other meters cannot be received.
- Only one output – for pulses and an alarm at the same time you need to choose the PM5330 with 2DI/2DO.
- Harmonics only up to the 15th – deeper quality analysis needs a higher series.
- No MID – for billing metering, choose the MID version PM5111 (Class C).
Safety and installation notes
- Never disconnect a CT secondary circuit while under load – an open CT secondary creates a dangerous voltage; use short-circuiting terminals.
- Protect the voltage measuring circuit with fuses or a small circuit breaker per the manufacturer's instructions.
- Connect the 100–415 V AC / 125–250 V DC supply circuit through separate protection, not from the measured line.
- Mount the device in the panel door so that the front stays IP52 and the IP30 housing remains inside the panel.
- Route the RS485 cable separately from power cables, using screened twisted pair with terminating resistors.
- Before commissioning, check the CT ratio, network type and phase sequence settings – an incorrect configuration gives readings that are wrong but look convincing.

RS485 ModbusAccuracy class
class 0.5S (active energy to IEC 62053-22)Suitable when you need:- a complete view of network parameters at an incoming or distribution panel via CT;
- class 0.5S energy metering with Modbus integration into a SCADA or BMS;
- alarms for power factor, overcurrent or phase loss with a single output.
Check before use:- whether you have suitable CTs with a 1 A or 5 A secondary;
- whether the phase voltage is ≤400 V and the line voltage ≤690 V;
- whether one DO is enough, or whether 2DI/2DO are needed;
- whether the panel door cut-out is 92x92 mm (enclosure 96x96 mm) and the depth ≥72 mm.
Important reminder:
A power meter/analyser monitors and signals, but does not disconnect the circuit – protection is provided by circuit breakers and relays. Use the alarm output as a signal to a controller or dispatcher, not as a protective device.FAQ
Can it be connected directly, without current transformers?
No – the current inputs are designed for a 1 A or 5 A secondary current, so CTs are essential.What CT ratio can be set?
The ratio is entered in the device menu to match the installed CTs (e.g. 400/5 A); check the exact range in the manufacturer's datasheet.Is it suitable for a 690 V network?
Yes, phase-to-phase is measured directly up to 690 V AC; higher voltages need voltage transformers.What is the digital output for?
It can be configured as an energy pulse output or an alarm signal to an external controller.How does it differ from the PM5330?
The PM5330 has 2DI/2DO, harmonics up to the 31st, 35 alarms and 256 kB of memory for data logs; the PM5110 is the base model with 1 DO.Can it be used for billing a supplier?
In Lithuania, billing metering is carried out by the ESO meter. The PM5110 has no MID certificate and is intended for internal metering and monitoring; the MID version is the PM5111 (METSEPM5111, Class C).Panel-mounted three-phase power meter | 1–5 A via current transformer
