Schneider Electric Acti9 iEM3255 A9MEM3255 is a modular 3-phase energy meter connected via external current transformers x/1 A or x/5 A. It is designed for higher-current circuits where a direct meter cannot be used, with data transferred over Modbus RS-485.
Key point:
When billing metering with MID approval, four tariffs and a pulse output are needed, iEM3255 combines all of it in one 5-module housing. It measures active, reactive and apparent energy in both directions.Connection

The meter is mounted on a DIN rail. Current circuits are connected via external current transformers, voltage circuits directly or via voltage transformers.
The CT ratio (primary current up to 32,767 A) and network type – 3P, 3P+N or 1P+N – are set in the meter.
The device counts energy in 4 tariffs controlled by the internal clock, the input or communication, and the pulse output transmits energy pulses or an overload alarm.
Why choose iEM3255?
MID-approved metering for tenants or building zones, four tariffs and a full energy balance – import and export.Technical specifications

- Connection via CT x/1 A and x/5 A – suits any incomer current.
- Active energy class 0.5S – accurate consumption metering.
- Modbus RTU RS-485 – data to SCADA, BMS or energy management.
- MID approval – suitable for billing metering.
- 4 tariffs – via clock, input or communication.
- 1 DI / 1 DO – pulse counting, tariff control, pulse output or alarm.
Where is it used?
- Building and plant incomers with current transformers
- Tenant and zone metering
- PV generation and consumption metering
- Energy monitoring of production lines
- Energy management and BMS systems
- Panel building and retrofit
Use by need
For the facility manager.
MID metering allows fair cost allocation to tenants. For the automation / SCADA integrator.
Modbus RTU registers make the meter quick to integrate. For the installing electrician.
5-module DIN housing and clear CT ratio setting – easy installation.Practical use
If a shopping centre needs MID-approved metering for each tenant with two tariffs, iEM3255 is connected via current transformers, the tariffs are controlled by the input or Modbus, and data is sent to the building management system.Pros
- Connection via CT x/1 A and x/5 A
- Accuracy class 0.5S
- Modbus RTU RS-485
- Compact – 5 modules
- MID approved
- 4 tariffs and DI/DO
Cons / limitations
- External current transformers required
- More complex than basic meters – tariffs and I/O need configuring
- No harmonic analysis – choose PM5110 for that
Safety and installation notes
- Switch off and verify absence of voltage before wiring.
- Never open CT secondary circuits under load – use shorting terminals.
- Observe CT direction (P1→P2) and phase matching with the voltage inputs.
- Protect voltage circuits as specified by the manufacturer.
- Installation must be done by a qualified electrician.
Quick selection guide
CT x/1 A, x/5 A3×230/400 Vcl. 0.5SModbus RS-4855 mod. DINMIDSuitable when you need:- Metering energy via current transformers
- Transferring data over Modbus
- MID billing metering with tariffs
Check before use:- CT ratio and secondary current (1 A or 5 A)
- Network type (3P / 3P+N / 1P+N)
- Modbus address and baud rate
Important reminder: The meter does not protect the line – it requires current transformers and protection of the voltage circuits.☝ Elsprendimai.eu recommends:- ELEQ TQ50-L / TQ40 or Schneider PowerLogic HJ / HM current transformers
- For harmonics and alarms – PM5110 power analyser
