  • Modular three-phase energy meter | 100 A | 3×230/400 V | pulse output | MID | DIN | Eastron SDM72D-MID

    Code: SDM72DMID

Direct-connected three-phase kWh meter up to 100 A with MID B+D approval. Its 1000 imp/kWh pulse output lets you pass readings to a PLC or data logger.

  • Modular three-phase energy meter | 100 A | 3×230/400 V | pulse output | MID | DIN | Eastron SDM72D-MID

The Eastron SDM72D-MID is a 4-module DIN meter for 3×230/400 V four-wire networks, connected directly up to 100 A. It counts consumed active energy and sends pulses to an external system.

    Key point:
It is a straightforward choice when you need accurate kWh metering without complex setup. MID B+D approval confirms the measuring accuracy, and the pulse output lets readings feed an existing automation system without Modbus.
    Current

    Voltage
    3×230/400 V
    Output
    1000 imp/kWh

    →
    Bidirectional metering
No. The SDM72D-MID counts total active energy and does not separate import and export. If consumed and exported energy must be seen separately, choose the Eastron SDM72D-M-MID.

    Communication interfaces and integration

    Pulse output
1000 imp/kWh – consumed energy can be passed to a data logger, PLC counter input, BMS or a smart-home controller with a pulse input.

    Operating principle

Mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail and connected directly into a three-phase four-wire circuit up to 100 A – no current transformers.

The meter measures active energy on all three phases and accumulates a total kWh value.

The reading is shown on the backlit LCD, and every kWh is sent as 1000 pulses via the pulse output.

    Why choose the Eastron SDM72D-MID?
It is meant for places that need an approved-accuracy kWh meter but no communication protocol. Fewer functions mean simpler installation, a lower price and fewer configuration errors.

    Main functions

    • MID B+D – measuring accuracy approved under 2014/32/EU.
    • Direct 100 A connection – no current transformers.
    • Pulse output 1000 imp/kWh – readings to a PLC or data logger.
    • Backlit LCD – readable even in a dark panel.
    • Class 1 / B – to IEC 62053-21 and EN 50470-3.
    • 4 modules – 72 mm width in the panel.

How does it differ from similar models?

Eastron SDM72D-M-MID Same platform but with RS485 Modbus RTU, live values and separate import/export metering – choose it if you need separate import/export metering or remote reading.
Eastron SDM630-MT Multifunction 100 A meter with Modbus, MID and 4 tariffs; the SDM72D-MID is simpler and cheaper when only kWh metering is needed.
    Ollo 3P-351 Also a modular 100 A meter without communication; the SDM72D-MID adds MID B+D and a 1000 imp/kWh pulse output.

    Where is it used?

    • Sub-metering of rented units and apartments
    • Consumption metering of industrial equipment and lines
    • Heat pumps and boiler rooms
    • EV charging points without network connection
    • Agricultural buildings and warehouses
    • Upgrading existing pulse-based metering systems
    • Construction site distribution boards

    Use by requirement

    For installers.
Simple wiring with no configuration and no current transformers.
    For property managers.
    MID-approved readings for splitting costs.
    For automation engineers.
A standard 1000 imp/kWh signal to a PLC counter input.

    Practical use

If a factory needs to meter the compressor room separately and the PLC already has a free pulse input, install an SDM72D-MID in the compressor room panel – the PLC then counts kWh from the pulses while an MID-approved reading is always visible on site.

    Pros

    • MID B+D approval
    • Direct connection up to 100 A
    • Pulse output 1000 imp/kWh
    • Simple – no configuration needed
    • Backlit LCD
    • Low self-consumption – ≤ 2 W / 10 VA per phase

    Cons / limitations

    • No RS485 / Modbus – for remote reading choose the SDM72D-M-MID.
    • Does not separate import and export – energy exported to the grid is not measured separately.
    • Single tariff only – for multi-tariff metering choose the SDM630-MT.
    • Three-phase four-wire only and up to 100 A – higher currents require a CT meter.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation only by a qualified electrician with the power disconnected.
    • Fit upstream protection sized for the cable cross-section.
    • Follow the terminal markings – swapped phases or neutral give wrong readings.
    • Connect the pulse output according to the manufacturer's diagram and only to a suitable input.
    • The IP51 housing is for indoor use – outdoors install in a sealed enclosure.

    Quick selection guide

    100 A direct
    3×230/400 V
    1000 imp/kWh
    MID B+D
    Suitable when you need:
    • MID-approved kWh metering
    • A pulse signal to a PLC or logger
    • A simple solution without Modbus
    Check before use:
    • That the load does not exceed 100 A
    • That the network is three-phase four-wire (3P4W)
    • That import/export separation is not needed
Important reminder: The meter only measures energy – it does not protect the circuit and does not replace an MCB or voltage protection.
