  • Modular three-phase energy meter | 80 A | 3×230/400 V | 1 tariff | S0 pulse output | MID | DIN | Orno OR-WE-520

    Code: OR-WE-520

A straightforward direct-connected three-phase meter for 3×230/400 V networks up to 80 A, MID certified, accuracy class B. It shows consumed active energy and has an S0 pulse output (800 imp/kWh) – suited to sub-metering and billing without a data link.

  • Modular three-phase energy meter | 80 A | 3×230/400 V | 1 tariff | S0 pulse output | MID | DIN | Orno OR-WE-520

The Orno OR-WE-520 is a modular three-phase energy meter for direct connection to 3-phase 4-wire 3×230/400 V networks up to 80 A. It is intended for sub-metering and tenant metering where an on-screen consumption reading and a pulse signal are enough.

    Key point:
The meter complies with MID (2014/32/EU) and accuracy class B to EN 50470-3, so its readings are valid for billing. There are no tariffs or data interface – it is a simple, clear device with nothing to configure. If automatic reading is needed later, the S0 output connects to a pulse counter or controller.

The manufacturer does not state separate exported energy metering for this model – the display shows total active energy. If import and export must be seen separately, choose the Orno OR-WE-517.

    Communication interfaces and integration

    S0 pulse output
Open-collector output 12–27 V DC, ≤27 mA, pulse width 80 ms, 800 imp/kWh – connects to a PLC, pulse counter, data logger or a Home Assistant pulse input.
    RS485 / Modbus
Not available – data is read on the display or via S0 pulses.

    Operating principle

The meter mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail and connects directly into a 3P+N circuit – no current transformers are needed up to 80 A.

It measures three-phase active energy and accumulates it in one register; each counted portion of energy is signalled by an LED and an S0 pulse.

The result is consumed energy in kWh on the backlit LCD (6+2 digits), while S0 pulses can be passed to an automatic metering system.

    Why choose the Orno OR-WE-520?
It delivers MID-grade metering for less than Modbus models: no configuration, no communication cabling, one clear reading. Suited where readings are taken by hand or a pulse signal is sufficient.

    Main functions

    • MID metering – readings valid for billing
    • Direct connection up to 80 A – no current transformers
    • S0 output 800 imp/kWh – for automatic pulse counting
    • Backlit LCD – readable in a darker panel
    • LED indication – shows the meter is counting
    • IP51 housing – protection against dust and dripping water

How does it differ from similar models?

Orno OR-WE-517 80 A MID too, but adds RS485 Modbus, 4 tariffs and import/export registers. The OR-WE-520 is the simpler, lower-cost option without a data link.
THORGEON 01002 Simple 80 A meter without interfaces; the OR-WE-520 is MID certified.
    Ollo 3P-351 / ESTXM302 Simple 100 A models without interfaces – when more than 80 A is needed.
Eastron SDM630-MT 100 A, 4 tariffs, Modbus, MID – when remote reading and network parameters are required.

    Where is it used?

    • Tenant and sub-user metering
    • Floor and zone sub-metering in buildings
    • Workshops and small production areas
    • Farm buildings and warehouses
    • Three-phase heat pump or boiler circuits
    • Construction sites and temporary distribution boards

    Use by need

    For building owners.
An MID reading for billing a tenant without extra systems.
    For electricians.
Simple 3P+N wiring, no configuration required.
    For automation engineers.
S0 pulses straight into a PLC or data logger.

    Practical use

If you let part of a warehouse to a company with a three-phase supply up to 80 A, the OR-WE-520 in the panel gives an MID reading for billing, and the S0 output can be wired to the building controller later if needed.

    Pros

    • MID certificate and class B
    • Simple – no configuration
    • S0 output for automation
    • Backlit LCD
    • IP51 housing
    • Low own consumption – ≤0.4 W

    Cons / limitations

    • No RS485 / Modbus – for remote reading choose the Orno OR-WE-517
    • Single tariff
    • Manufacturer does not state separate export metering – for separate import/export metering see the OR-WE-517
    • Max. 80 A – for higher currents see 100 A models (Eastron SDM630-MT)

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and wiring must be done by a qualified electrician with the supply isolated
    • Size cables and protection for the 80 A limit
    • Follow the phase and N wiring diagram in the manual
    • Do not load the S0 output above 27 mA and 27 V DC
    • Fit the terminal covers and seal them if required

    Quick selection guide

    80 A direct
    MID, class B
    S0 800 imp/kWh
    1 tariff, no Modbus
    Suitable when you need:
    • Simple MID metering
    • Manual on-site reading
    • A pulse signal for automation
    Check before use:
    • That the load does not exceed 80 A
    • That the network is 3×230/400 V with N
    • That 800 imp/kWh suits your system
Important reminder: The meter only records energy – it does not replace circuit breakers, RCDs or surge protection and does not transmit data via Modbus.
