  • Modular three-phase energy meter | x/5 A via current transformers | 3×230/400 V | 1–9999 A primary | Pulse output | IP51 | DIN | VEXEN ES3100DCT

    Code: ES3100DCT

A three-phase active energy meter connected via x/5 A current transformers when the load exceeds direct-connection limits. The CT ratio is set in the menu (1–2000), so the display shows real kWh straight away. Intended for non-billing (internal) metering.

  • Modular three-phase energy meter | x/5 A via current transformers | 3×230/400 V | 1–9999 A primary | Pulse output | IP51 | DIN | VEXEN ES3100DCT

The VEXEN ES3100DCT is a modular three-phase energy meter connected via current transformers with a 5 A secondary in 4-wire 3×230/400 V networks. It is intended for internal active energy metering on supplies and feeders where the current is too high for direct-connected meters.

    Key point:
The current transformer ratio is set in the meter menu (0001–2000, e.g. 100/5 A = 0020), so the display shows actual consumed energy without conversion. It is a simple way to monitor the consumption of large loads – up to 9999 A primary current. The manufacturer does not state MID for this model, so it is intended for non-billing (internal) metering.

    Bidirectional metering
No. The manufacturer's manual states that total active energy is counted as "Total = Import + Export" – exported energy is added to the overall reading and there are no separate registers. This meter does not separate import and export; if separate metering is needed, choose a meter with separate import / export metering (e.g. the ESM3100DM up to 100 A).

    Communication interfaces and integration

    Pulse output
10 imp/kWh, passive, 5–27 V DC, max. 27 mA – pulses are passed to a PLC, data logger or BMS with a pulse input.
    Display and pulses only
The manufacturer does not specify an RS485 Modbus or M-Bus interface – readings are taken from the backlit LCD or counted from pulses.

    Operating principle

The meter is mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail: the voltage circuits connect directly to L1, L2, L3 and N, and the current circuits to the secondaries of three x/5 A current transformers.

The CT ratio (0001–2000) is entered in the meter menu; the measuring circuit counts active energy in all phases and scales it by the set ratio.

Total energy (up to 999999.9 kWh) is shown on the backlit LCD, and the pulse output passes a 10 imp/kWh signal to an external system.

    Why choose the VEXEN ES3100DCT?
It gives an inexpensive and clear way to monitor the consumption of large three-phase supplies or feeders where a 100 A direct-connected meter is not enough. The settable CT ratio lets the same meter work with different transformers – from small ones to several thousand amps.

    Main functions

    • Connection via x/5 A CTs – metering on feeders where the current exceeds direct-connection limits.
    • Settable CT ratio 0001–2000 – the display shows real kWh without conversion.
    • Primary current up to 9999 A – suitable from small to very large supplies.
    • Class 1 to IEC 62053-21 – accuracy for internal metering.
    • Pulse output 10 imp/kWh – simple integration into a PLC or BMS.
    • IP51 and insulation class II – protected housing for distribution boards.

How does it differ from similar models?

VEXEN ESM3100D Direct connection up to 100 A with MID; the ES3100DCT connects via CTs for higher currents but has no MID.
Eastron SDM630MCT-2T Via 1/5 A CTs, 2 tariffs, RS485 Modbus, MID; the ES3100DCT is simpler, with no communication interface and no MID.
Eastron SDM630MCT-ML-1 Via CTs, RS485 Modbus, MID, multifunction; the ES3100DCT measures total active energy only.
    THORGEON 01004 Also via x/5 A CTs, class 1, IP20; the ES3100DCT has IP51 and a settable CT ratio.

    Where is it used?

    • Industrial supplies and power boards
    • Main supplies of commercial buildings
    • Internal metering of production lines and halls
    • Compressor rooms, pump stations, boiler rooms
    • Large refrigeration and ventilation systems
    • Agricultural complexes
    • Construction sites with high-power equipment
    • Energy audits on high-current feeders

    Use by need

    Production managers.
Clear kWh consumption of each large feeder for cost allocation.
    Electricians.
One model for various CTs – the ratio is set on site.
    Energy managers.
The pulse signal lets data be collected into an existing system.

    Practical application

If consumption on a 250 A workshop supply must be monitored, three 250/5 A current transformers are fitted on the phases, ratio 0050 is entered in the ES3100DCT menu, and the meter displays the workshop's real kWh and sends pulses to the plant's data system.

    Pros

    • Suitable for high currents – primary up to 9999 A
    • CT ratio set in the menu (0001–2000)
    • Class 1 to IEC 62053-21
    • IP51 and insulation class II
    • Backlit LCD display
    • Pulse output for integration

    Cons / limitations

    • The manufacturer does not state MID – not suitable for billing; for a MID CT meter choose the Eastron SDM630MCT-2T
    • No separate import / export metering – export is added to the total kWh
    • No RS485 Modbus or M-Bus – for digital integration choose the Eastron SDM630MCT-ML-1
    • Measures total active energy only – no V, A, PF
    • Three x/5 A current transformers must be purchased separately

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and wiring must be done by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated and verified dead.
    • Never disconnect the meter from the secondary circuit of a live current transformer – short-circuit the CT secondary first, otherwise a dangerous voltage appears across it.
    • Keep phases matched: each CT secondary must be wired to the same phase as its voltage terminal and in the correct direction (P1 → P2).
    • Protect the voltage measuring circuits with separate fuses or MCBs.
    • After installation enter the exact CT ratio (primary / 5) – a wrong ratio distorts readings proportionally.
    • Do not break the seals or open the cover – according to the manufacturer's manual this voids the warranty.

    Quick selection guide

    Via CT x/5 A
    Primary up to 9999 A
    Class 1
    No MID – internal metering
    Suitable when you need:
    • internal metering above 100 A
    • one meter for different CTs
    • a simple pulse signal
    Check before use:
    • that the CT secondary current is 5 A
    • which CT ratio to enter
    • that MID is not required for billing
Important reminder: The ES3100DCT has no MID and does not replace a billing meter; it also performs no protective functions, and the current transformers are purchased separately.

    FAQ

    Which current transformers are suitable?
    Those with a 5 A secondary (x/5 A), primary current from 1 to 9999 A.
    How is the ratio set?
    The primary-to-secondary ratio is entered in the menu, e.g. 100/5 A = 0020.
    Is the meter MID certified?
MID is not stated in the manufacturer's manual – the meter is for internal metering.
Does it measure energy exported to the grid?
No – export is added to the total kWh and there are no separate registers. For that choose e.g. the ESM3100DM.
    Does it have Modbus?
    No, only a 10 imp/kWh pulse output.
    What is the accuracy class?
    Class 1 to IEC 62053-21.
