Photo relay with built-in sensor | 16 A | 2–1000 lx | IP65 | F&F AWZ
F&F AWZ is a twilight relay in which the sensor and the relay share one sealed IP65 housing. It is mounted on an outdoor wall, so it needs neither panel space nor a separate sensor cable. It switches lighting on at dusk and off at dawn; the switch-on threshold is adjustable within 2–1000 lx.
Key point:
When there is no room in the panel or the panel is far away, the simplest solution is to install everything on site: the supply goes into the AWZ and out to the luminaires. One housing, one connection point, and lighting that follows real light, not a timer.Sensitivity

IP65, outdoor wall mountingOperating principle
The built-in light sensor continuously measures ambient illuminance. When light falls below the set threshold, the relay closes the NO contact and switches the lighting on; when light increases, the contact opens.
The threshold is set with the potentiometer on the housing (“crescent moon” mark – darker, “sun” mark – brighter) within 2–1000 lx. The switch-on delay is about 10 s and the switch-off delay about 20 s, so a brief flash of headlights or lightning does not switch the lighting off.
Because the sensor sits in the housing itself, the relay location and the sensor location are the same – choose it so that the AWZ sees daylight but not the luminaires it controls.
Why 2–1000 lx?
Yard and street lighting is usually switched on at 5–20 lx, signs and shop windows earlier, at 30–100 lx. The upper 1000 lx limit allows lighting to switch on already on an overcast day, e.g. under canopies or shelters. One model covers both the dusk and the overcast-day scenarios.Technical specifications
Product type Twilight relay (photo relay) with built-in light sensor, wall-mounted Manufacturer / model F&F Filipowski AWZ Supply voltage 230 V AC (operating range 195–253 V AC) Output 1NO (1 normally open contact) Max. switching current 16 A (resistive load) Max. load – incandescent lamps 4000 W Max. load – LED 250 W Light sensitivity range 2–1000 lx, adjustable by potentiometer Switch-on / switch-off delay approx. 10 s / approx. 20 s Power consumption 0.8 W Terminals screw terminals, up to 2.5 mm² Protection rating IP65 (sealed housing) Dimensions 64 × 88 × 37 mm Mounting on a wall (surface), with screws Operating temperature −25…+50 °C Housing thermoplastic, grey, halogen-free Main functions
- Sensor in the housing – no separate sensor cable and no panel space needed.
- Wide 2–1000 lx range – from deep dusk to an overcast day.
- Protection against false triggering – the delay ignores car headlights and lightning flashes.
- 16 A contact and LED up to 250 W – directly controls several outdoor luminaires.
- Sealed IP65 housing – mounted directly outdoors on the facade.
- Low self-consumption – only 0.8 W.
How does it differ from similar models?
- ES-G03 – Also outdoor and IP65, but 10 A and a narrower 10–40 lx range – for dusk control only.
- GTV CZ-2 – Wall-mounted relay with a 1–9 h timer – when lighting must switch off after a set time, not only at dawn.
- HOROZ 0890010001 – Simple 6 A relay with a 5–15 lx range – for small loads where wide adjustment is not needed.
- Night-Matic 2000 – Wall-mounted IP54 relay with a 2–30 lx range – for dusk control only, without wider adjustment.
Where is it used?
- Yard, path and driveway lighting
- Facade and entrance luminaires
- Illuminated signs and shop windows
- Canopies, terraces and gazebos
- Floodlights on warehouses and farm buildings
- Sites without a separate panel or with a distant panel
Use by need
For the electrician.
One box on the wall instead of a panel module and a sensor – fewer cables and faster installation.For the home or farmstead owner.
The yard is lit every evening and the luminaires stay off during the day – no timer to adjust.For the company or farm manager.
Perimeter floodlights work by light level, not by people or an outdated timer.Practical use
If two 50 W LED floodlights hang on a farm building facade and the panel is in another building, the AWZ is mounted next to them on the north wall and connected into the existing supply line. Turn the potentiometer towards the “crescent moon” (about 5–10 lx), close the cover – and the floodlights will switch on at dusk with no timer or extra cable.Pros
- Sensor and relay in one IP65 housing
- Wide 2–1000 lx adjustment range
- 16 A contact, LED up to 250 W
- Delay against false triggering
- No panel space required
- Low self-consumption of 0.8 W
Cons / limitations
- LED load is limited to 250 W – for larger LED groups control the coil of a modular contactor
- The sensor is in the housing, so the relay location is dictated by light conditions, not convenience – sometimes it has to go higher or on another wall
- No timer for night-time switch-off – use GTV CZ-2 or a relay with a timer
- No AUTO / ON / OFF selector – manual control requires an additional switch
⚠ Safety and installation notes
- Mount the AWZ where it sees daylight but the light of the controlled luminaires does not reach it – otherwise the lighting will start flickering.
- Do not point the sensor south into direct sun or towards the road where car headlights hit it.
- To keep the housing sealed, bring the cables in from below and close the cover tightly after installation.
- For LED floodlight groups above 250 W the relay must control a contactor coil, not the load directly.
- Protect the circuit with a suitable circuit breaker; use wire no larger than 2.5 mm² in the terminals.
- Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician after disconnecting and verifying the absence of voltage.
Quick selection guide
2–1000 lx16 A / LED 250 W230 V ACIP65, wall-mountedSuitable when you need to:- control outdoor lighting without panel space;
- mount the relay and sensor in one housing on the facade;
- switch lighting on not only at dusk but also on overcast days.
Check before use:- total LED load (up to 250 W – directly, more – via a contactor);
- whether the luminaires themselves will light the sensor at the mounting point;
- whether night-time switch-off is needed – then choose a relay with a timer.
Important reminder: the AWZ controls lighting by light level, but it does not replace protective devices and does not switch lighting off in the middle of the night.☝ Elsprendimai.eu recommends:- Modular contactors – when the LED or floodlight load exceeds 250 W.
- Modular time relays – when lighting must be switched off after a set time.
- Photo relays and twilight switches – all photo relays: modular and wall-mounted.
FAQ
Where should the AWZ be mounted?
Outdoors on a wall, preferably on the north side, where daylight reaches it but not the controlled luminaires or car headlights.How many LED luminaires can be connected directly?
The manufacturer specifies up to 250 W of LED load; for more – via a modular contactor.How do I set the switch-on threshold?
With the potentiometer: towards the “crescent moon” – it switches on later, in darkness; towards the “sun” – earlier, while it is still lighter.Why does the lighting not switch on immediately?
The relay has a switch-on delay of about 10 s and a switch-off delay of about 20 s – this protects against false triggering.How does the AWZ differ from the F&F AZ 112?
The range is the same (2–1000 lx), but the AZ 112 is a modular panel relay with a remote sensor (cable up to 10 m), whereas the AWZ has everything in one wall-mounted IP65 housing.Does it need panel space?
No – the AWZ is mounted on a wall; the relay and sensor are in one IP65 housing.Photo relay with built-in sensor | 2–1000 lx | 16 A | IP65 | F&F AWZ
