SONOFF MINIR4 is a compact 1-channel Wi-Fi relay (10 A, 2200 W) for controlling lighting and household appliances. It is installed in a wall box behind the existing switch and works with eWeLink, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Home Assistant. A neutral (N) wire is required.

  • Smart relay switch | 1-channel | 10A | 2200W | 100-240V | Wi-Fi | SONOFF | MiniR4

SONOFF MINIR4 (MINI Extreme) is a compact single-channel Wi-Fi relay installed in a wall box behind an existing wall switch. It lets you control lighting or a household appliance with the regular switch as well as from the app, by voice or through automations.

    Key idea:
This is the simplest way to make an existing installation smart without replacing switches or pulling new cables. The key requirement is a neutral (N) wire in the box. If there is none, choose a relay that works without neutral.
    Load
    10 A / 2200 W (resistive)
    Connectivity
    Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, ESP32
    Wiring
    L + N, existing switch
    Dimensions
    39.5 × 33 × 16.8 mm

    How it works

The relay is wired in the box behind the wall switch: phase (L), neutral (N), the output to the load and the existing switch as a control input are connected to its terminals. Latching, momentary (push-button) and SPDT switches as well as dry-contact sensors are supported.

Once connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, the relay is controlled with the eWeLink app, by voice through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, by timers and scenes. The physical switch keeps working – the status in the app is updated in both cases.

The result: the existing light or appliance becomes smart – it switches on by schedule, at sunset, from a motion or door sensor, and users do not need to change their habits.

    Why choose MINIR4?
The dual-core ESP32 processor ensures a stable connection, Detach mode lets the switch control other devices, and the eWeLink-Remote function connects SONOFF wireless remotes without a separate hub.

    Main functions

    • Works with the existing switch – the light is controlled by the wall switch and the app, with the status always synchronised.
    • Detach mode – the switch can trigger scenes or smart bulbs without changing the relay state.
    • eWeLink-Remote gateway – SONOFF R5 and S-MATE wireless remotes connect directly to the relay.
    • Timers, schedules and scenes – lighting switches on by time, sunset or sensors without manual action.
    • Power-on delay – after a power cut, appliances do not start simultaneously, so there is no current surge.
    • Voice control – Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant commands without extra equipment.
    • LAN control – integration with Home Assistant, openHAB and other local systems.

    Where is it used?

    • Residential lighting behind an existing wall switch
    • Staircases and corridors controlled from two places with SPDT switches
    • Yard and facade lighting by sunset or schedule (relay in an indoor box)
    • Electric heaters and convectors up to 2 kW
    • Office lighting according to working hours
    • Upgrading old installations without new cabling
    • Country houses and summer cottages controlled remotely

    Use by need

    For homeowners.
Existing lights become controllable from the phone and by schedule without changing switches or the interior.
    For electricians.
The small housing fits into the box, and the universal switch input suits almost any existing switch.
    For smart home integrators.
ESP32, LAN control and Home Assistant integration allow the relay to be added to a local system without the cloud.

    Practical use

If a corridor light is operated by a regular switch and you want it to switch on from a motion sensor in the evening, install MINIR4 in the box behind the switch, connect it to L, N and the existing switch, and link it to the sensor in an eWeLink scene – manual control remains.

    Pros

    • Fits into a wall box behind the switch
    • Works with existing switches, including SPDT
    • Stable ESP32 processor
    • Detach mode for more flexible scenes
    • Built-in eWeLink-Remote gateway for remotes
    • Home Assistant integration and LAN control
    • Power-on delay after a power cut

    Cons / limitations

    • Neutral (N) wire required – without it choose ZBMINI-L2
    • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, 5 GHz not supported
    • Large LED groups and motors – only via a contactor
    • Not moisture-resistant – not for outdoor or damp locations
    • Remote control requires an internet connection

    Safety and installation notes

    • Before installation switch off the circuit breaker and verify that no voltage is present
    • Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician
    • Check that a neutral (N) wire is present in the box – never take it from the PE conductor
    • Do not exceed 10 A; use a contactor for LED groups and inductive loads
    • Do not install in damp rooms or outdoors without a suitable enclosure
    • Do not squeeze the wires in the box; check that the terminals are tightened

    Quick selection guide

    1 channel
    10 A / 2200 W
    100–240 V AC
    Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz
    N wire required
    Wall box installation
    Suitable when you need:
    • to control existing lighting from the app and the switch
    • to automate by schedule, sunset or sensors
    • to integrate the relay into Home Assistant or another local system
    Check before use:
    • whether there is an N wire in the box
    • whether the box is deep enough for the relay and wires
    • whether the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal is sufficient at the installation point
    • the load type and power (LED, motor, heater)
Important reminder: MINIR4 is not a protective device – it does not replace a circuit breaker or a residual current device.

    FAQ

    Is a neutral wire required?
Yes, MINIR4 is powered from L and N; if there is no N, choose the ZBMINI-L2, which works without neutral.
    Will my existing switch work?
Yes, latching, momentary (push-button) and SPDT switches are supported.
Does the relay work without internet?
The manual switch always works, LAN control works within the local network, and remote control requires internet.
Can I connect a group of LED luminaires?
Up to a few hundred watts – yes; for larger LED groups the relay should control a contactor coil because of inrush currents.
    Is 5 GHz Wi-Fi supported?
No, the relay connects to 2.4 GHz networks only.
Is MINIR4 suitable for Home Assistant?
Yes, via the eWeLink integration or in local LAN mode.
