SONOFF ZBMINI-L is a Zigbee 3.0 relay without neutral wire (1 channel, 6 A, LED up to 300 W) for installation in the box behind an existing switch. It works via a Zigbee hub (ZBBridge-P, NSPanel Pro, iHost, Home Assistant) and supports sensor automations.

  • Smart relay switch | no neutral | 1-channel | 6A | 100-240V | Zigbee 3.0 | SONOFF | ZBMINI-L

SONOFF ZBMINI-L is a Zigbee 3.0 relay that needs no neutral wire. It is installed behind an existing wall switch and lets you control lighting by switch, app, voice or automations via a Zigbee hub.

    Key idea:
In many older installations the switch box contains only the live wire and the wire to the light. ZBMINI-L is made for exactly this case – lighting becomes smart without pulling new cables. Remote control requires a Zigbee hub.
    Neutral wire
    not required
    Load
    up to 6 A, LED up to 300 W
    Connectivity
    Zigbee 3.0 (hub required)
    Dimensions
    54 × 45 × 24 mm

    How it works

The relay is connected in series with the load: the live wire (L) comes in, the wire to the light goes out, and the existing switch is connected to the S1/S2 terminals. No neutral wire is needed – the relay is powered through the load.

The relay is paired with a Zigbee 3.0 hub (SONOFF ZBBridge-P, NSPanel Pro, iHost, ZBDongle with Home Assistant, Amazon Echo with Zigbee, SmartThings). It is then controlled with eWeLink or another hub app, by voice and with automations.

According to the manufacturer, LED lights from about 3 W work without flicker and without an extra capacitor. The relay can be linked with SONOFF motion, door/window or temperature sensors.

    Why choose ZBMINI-L?
ZBMINI-L solves the most common retrofit problem – no neutral wire in the switch box. Manual control is kept and the lighting becomes part of the Zigbee system.

    Main functions

    • Works without neutral – suitable for old installations with only the live wire and the wire to the light in the box.
    • Works with the existing switch – manual control is kept, latching switches and push buttons are supported.
    • Zigbee 3.0 – low-power connectivity and local automations via the hub.
    • Schedules and scenes – timers, power-on state and scenes in the eWeLink app.
    • Linking with sensors – the light switches on from a SONOFF motion or door sensor.
    • Voice control – Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings via the hub.

    Where is it used?

    • Lighting retrofit in old flats and houses
    • Switch boxes without neutral wire
    • Corridors and stairways with motion sensors
    • Bedroom and living room lights
    • Home Assistant systems with Zigbee
    • Rental homes without renovation

    Use by need

    For homeowners.
Lighting becomes smart without opening walls or new cables.
    For electricians.
A solution for boxes without N – no need to run an extra neutral.
    For Home Assistant users.
Works via ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT with a ZBDongle, without the cloud.

    Practical use

In a flat, the switch box has only two wires, and the corridor light should switch on from a motion sensor. ZBMINI-L is installed behind the switch, paired with a ZBBridge-P and an SNZB-03 motion sensor – the light switches on automatically, while the normal switch works as before.

    Pros

    • No neutral wire required
    • The existing switch is kept
    • Zigbee 3.0 – low power and local automations
    • LED from about 3 W without flicker
    • Wide hub and Home Assistant support

    Cons / limitations

    • No remote control without a Zigbee hub
    • Does not repeat the signal – does not strengthen the Zigbee network
    • Lower load than relays with neutral
    • Larger than the newer ZBMINI-L2

    Safety and installation notes

    • Install only with the power disconnected; the work must be done by a qualified electrician.
    • Do not exceed 6 A and the specified LED / resistive load limits.
    • The relay is not a protective device – the circuit must have a circuit breaker and, where required, an RCD.
    • Install in a dry room and do not cover with insulation that prevents cooling.
    • Check compatibility with very low-power LEDs or electronic transformers.

    Quick selection guide

    No neutral
    1 channel
    6 A
    LED up to 300 W
    Zigbee 3.0
    S1/S2 for switch
    Suitable when you need:
    • to control lighting where the box has no neutral wire
    • to keep the existing wall switch
    • to add lighting to a Zigbee or Home Assistant system
    Check before use:
    • that you have a Zigbee 3.0 hub
    • that the load does not exceed 6 A and LED 300 W
    • that the box fits a 54 × 45 × 24 mm module
    • that the light is not below about 3 W
Important reminder: ZBMINI-L is not a protective device – it does not replace a circuit breaker or an RCD and does not work remotely without a Zigbee hub.

    FAQ

Does ZBMINI-L work without a neutral wire?
Yes. This is its main feature – the relay is powered through the load, so it suits boxes with only the live wire and the wire to the light.
    Is a hub required?
Yes. It is a Zigbee 3.0 device and needs a hub, e.g. SONOFF ZBBridge-P, NSPanel Pro, iHost or a ZBDongle with Home Assistant.
Will the normal switch still work?
Yes. The existing latching switch or push button is connected to S1/S2 and keeps controlling the light.
    What is the minimum load?
According to the manufacturer, LED lights from about 3 W work without flicker. We recommend testing with very small loads.
How does it differ from ZBMINI-L2?
ZBMINI-L2 is the newer and smaller version. ZBMINI-L is larger (54 × 45 × 24 mm) but does the same job – controls lighting without neutral.
Does it work with Home Assistant?
Yes, via ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT with a compatible Zigbee adapter such as SONOFF ZBDongle-P or ZBDongle-E.
