  • Zigbee 3.0 USB coordinator | USB | 5VDC | EFR32MG21 | +20 dBm | black | SONOFF | ZBDongle-E Plus

SONOFF ZBDongle-E (Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus-E) is a USB Zigbee coordinator with a Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 chip and a +20 dBm transmitter. Plugged into a computer, Raspberry Pi or mini server, it turns Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT or another system into a local Zigbee hub without the cloud.

    Key idea:
If you build your smart home on your own server, you do not need a closed vendor hub – a USB stick is enough. ZBDongle-E controls Zigbee devices from various brands locally, and the external antenna and aluminium housing ensure good coverage.
    Chip
    EFR32MG21, Cortex-M33
    Transmit power
    +20 dBm, external antenna
    Power supply
    5 V, max. 100 mA (USB)
    Dimensions
    75 × 25.5 × 13.5 mm

    How it works

The stick is plugged into a USB port of a computer or Raspberry Pi (preferably via a USB extension cable, away from USB 3.0 interference). The system recognises it as a serial port via the CH9102F interface.

Home Assistant (ZHA), Zigbee2MQTT, openHAB, ioBroker or Domoticz use the stick as the Zigbee network coordinator: sensors, relays, switches and thermostats are paired with it.

The result: the Zigbee network is managed on a local server, automations work without internet, and devices can be chosen from various brands.

    Why choose ZBDongle-E?
The EFR32MG21 chip with a +20 dBm transmitter and an external SMA antenna provides good coverage, and the stick can be reflashed to router mode to extend the Zigbee network.

    • Devices from various brands – SONOFF, Aqara, IKEA, Tuya and other Zigbee devices in one system.
    • Wide coverage – +20 dBm transmitter and external antenna.
    • Works without the cloud – automations run on the local server.
    • Router mode – after reflashing, the stick can extend the Zigbee network.
    • Compact USB format – plugs into a computer, Raspberry Pi or NAS.

    Where is it used?

    • Home Assistant servers (Raspberry Pi, mini PC, NAS)
    • Zigbee2MQTT systems
    • openHAB, ioBroker, Domoticz projects
    • Integrator test benches
    • Homes with Zigbee devices from various brands
    • Small offices with a local server

    Use by need

    For Home Assistant users.
The simplest way to add Zigbee to your server without a separate hub.
    For smart home integrators.
One coordinator for devices of different brands and local control without the cloud.
    For electricians.
ZBMINI, TRVZB and SNZB devices for customers with Home Assistant work via one stick.

    Practical use

If Home Assistant runs on a Raspberry Pi and you want to connect 30 Zigbee sensors and relays, plug ZBDongle-E in via a USB extension cable, select it as the coordinator in the ZHA integration and pair the devices directly in the Home Assistant interface.

    Pros

    • EFR32MG21 chip, +20 dBm transmitter
    • External SMA antenna
    • Aluminium housing
    • Compatible with ZHA, Zigbee2MQTT and others
    • Router mode available

    Cons / limitations

    • Requires a computer or server with control software
    • No own app – controlled via Home Assistant etc.

    Suitable when you need:
    • to add Zigbee to Home Assistant or another local system
    • to control Zigbee devices from various brands without the cloud
    • to build a large local Zigbee network
    Check before use:
    • whether your system supports an EFR32 (EmberZNet) coordinator
    • whether a free USB port and extension cable are available
    • whether the devices are Zigbee 3.0 compatible
    • whether a driver is needed for your operating system
Important reminder: ZBDongle-E does not work on its own – it needs a computer or server with Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT or other control software.

    FAQ
