SONOFF ZBMINI-L2 is a Zigbee 3.0 relay that needs no neutral wire (1 channel, 6 A, min. 3 W) for installation in the box behind an existing switch. It works via a Zigbee hub (ZBBridge, NSPanel Pro, iHost, Home Assistant) and supports two-way control.

  • Smart relay switch | no neutral | 1-channel | 6A | 100-240V | Zigbee 3.0 | SONOFF | ZBMINI-L2

SONOFF ZBMINI-L2 (ZBMINI Extreme) is a Zigbee 3.0 relay that needs no neutral wire. It is installed in the box behind an existing switch and lets you control lighting by the switch, app, voice or automations via a Zigbee hub.

    Key idea:
In older installations the switch box often contains only the phase and the wire to the luminaire. ZBMINI-L2 is designed exactly for that case – lighting becomes smart without pulling new cables. A Zigbee hub is required.
    N wire
    not required
    Load
    up to 6 A, min. 3 W
    Connectivity
    Zigbee 3.0 (hub required)
    Dimensions
    39.5 × 32 × 18.4 mm

    How it works

The relay is wired in series with the load: the phase (L) comes in, the wire to the luminaire goes out, and the existing switch is connected to terminals S1/S2. No neutral wire is needed – the relay is powered through the load.

The relay is paired with a Zigbee hub (SONOFF ZBBridge, NSPanel Pro, iHost, ZBDongle with Home Assistant, Amazon Echo with Zigbee). It is then controlled with eWeLink or another hub app, by voice and by automations.

The result: lighting can be controlled by the switch and remotely, schedules or sunrise / sunset modes can be created, and two-way control on a staircase is also supported.

    Why choose ZBMINI-L2?
It is one of the smallest Zigbee modules and fits into EU, 86 and 120 type boxes. It solves the most common retrofit problem – the absence of an N wire in the switch box.

    Main functions

    • Works without an N wire – suitable for old installations where the box contains only the phase and the wire to the luminaire.
    • Works with the existing switch – manual control remains; latching switches and push buttons are supported.
    • Two-way control – suitable for staircases and corridors with two switches.
    • Zigbee 3.0 – low-power communication and local automations via the hub.
    • Schedules and sun modes – the light switches on at sunset and off at sunrise.
    • Voice control – Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant via the hub.

    Where is it used?

    • Lighting retrofits in old apartments and houses
    • Switch boxes without a neutral wire
    • Staircases and corridors with two switches
    • Bedroom and living room luminaires
    • Home Assistant systems with Zigbee
    • Rental properties without renovation

    Use by need

    For homeowners.
The light becomes smart without breaking walls or pulling new cables.
    For electricians.
A solution for boxes without N – no need to run an extra neutral.
    For Home Assistant users.
Works via ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT with a ZBDongle, without the cloud.

    Practical use

If the switch box in an apartment contains only two wires and you want to control the ceiling light from the phone, install ZBMINI-L2 in the box behind the switch in series with the load, pair it with a Zigbee hub and set an evening schedule in the app.

    Pros

    • No neutral wire required
    • Very small housing
    • Works with the existing switch and push buttons
    • Two-way control
    • Zigbee 3.0 – less Wi-Fi load
    • Compatible with Home Assistant

    Cons / limitations

    • A Zigbee hub is required
    • Max. 6 A and min. 3 W load
    • Not suitable for inductive loads (fans, motors)
    • End device – does not extend the Zigbee network
    • Not compatible with anti-flicker modules

    Safety and installation notes

    • Before installation switch off the circuit breaker and verify that no voltage is present
    • Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician
    • Do not exceed 6 A and do not connect inductive loads
    • Do not connect anti-flicker modules – they may damage the relay
    • Very low-power LED lamps (below 3 W) may flicker
    • Install only in dry indoor locations

    Quick selection guide

    No N wire
    1 channel
    6 A
    Min. 3 W
    Zigbee 3.0
    EU / 86 / 120 box
    Suitable when you need:
    • smart lighting in boxes without a neutral wire
    • control by switch and app together
    • integration into a Zigbee system or Home Assistant
    Check before use:
    • whether you have a compatible Zigbee hub
    • the load power (3 W – 6 A)
    • that the load is not inductive
    • that the luminaire has no anti-flicker module
Important reminder: ZBMINI-L2 is not a protective device – it does not replace a circuit breaker or a residual current device and does not work remotely without a Zigbee hub.
