    TD50MT – a Rayfull three-phase energy and power meter with direct connection up to 100 A, four-tariff metering and an RS485 Modbus RTU interface, mounted on a DIN rail. Designed for EV charging points, solar power plants, building energy metering and IoT solutions, where you need to measure not only consumed kWh but also power, current, voltage and energy flow in both directions.

    Key idea:
    This is an internal metering and monitoring meter, not a billing one – it has no MID approval, but Class 0.5 accuracy, bidirectional metering and 4 tariffs with 8 time segments let it accurately answer practical questions: how many kWh the charging point consumed on the night tariff, how much the solar plant fed back into the grid, what the peak power of the workshop was. Data travels to a BMS or SCADA via Modbus RTU without any intermediate modules.

    How it works

    The meter is connected directly into the three-phase circuit: the phase conductors pass through internal measuring shunts, and voltage is measured from the same terminals. The rated current Ib is 5 A, the maximum Imax is 100 A, so no current transformers (CTs) are needed – this simplifies installation and removes CT ratio errors. 1P2W, 3P3W and 3P4W network types are supported, so the same device can be used on a single-phase sub-circuit and on a full four-wire three-phase supply.

    The measuring microprocessor calculates voltage, current, active (W) and reactive (var) power, and power factor every cycle, and accumulates active and reactive energy separately in the import and export directions. An internal clock divides the day into up to 8 time segments and assigns energy to one of 4 tariff registers. Accumulated values are shown on the LED display and made available over RS485 (Modbus RTU or DLT645-2007 protocol), and a pulse output duplicates the metering for an external pulse counter.

    What makes the TD50MT worthwhile?
    In a single 100 x 72 x 66 mm housing you get power-analyser functions (P, Q, PF, U, I), bidirectional energy metering and tariff registers – something that would normally need several separate devices. Direct 100 A connection covers the majority of domestic and small commercial supplies, and the Modbus RTU interface makes the meter "visible" to any automation system.

    Key features

    • Bidirectional metering – separate import and export registers for active and reactive energy, suitable for solar plants and V2G-type charging.
    • 4 tariffs / 8 time segments – energy is split by time of day, so you see how many kWh were used at the cheap rate and how many at the expensive rate.
    • Real-time power parameters – W, var, PF, U and I for each phase, not just accumulated kWh.
    • RS485 Modbus RTU and DLT645-2007 – two protocols for integration into BMS, SCADA, EMS or Tuya-type gateways via an external module.
    • Direct connection up to 100 A – no current transformers, fewer terminals and fewer opportunities for error.
    • Pulse output – parallel metering for a controller or pulse totaliser, independent of the Modbus bus.

    Where is it used?

    • Tariff-based energy metering for EV charging points
    • Monitoring generation and consumption balance for solar power plants
    • Sub-metering for commercial-building tenants (internal allocation)
    • Power monitoring for production lines and workshops with SCADA
    • Energy management systems (EMS) for homes with a three-phase supply
    • Data collection for IoT and energy audits
    • Cost control for heat pumps and ventilation units
    • Measurement on generators and backup-supply feeds

    Use by need

    For the domestic user.
    If you have a solar plant or an electric vehicle and a two-tariff plan, the TD50MT will show how much energy you fed into the grid and how much you consumed on the night tariff – letting you shift charging or water-heater operation to cheap hours and genuinely cut your bill.
    For businesses and industry.
    The meter lets you allocate electricity costs between departments or tenants and track power factor – if PF drops below the supplier's required limit, you see it before a reactive-energy penalty arrives. Billing third parties requires the MID version (TD50MTMID).
    For electricians / engineers.
    Before installation, check the network type (3P4W with neutral or 3P3W without), set the Modbus address and baud rate, and configure the tariff time segments according to the client's supplier plan. If the supply current exceeds 100 A, choose a CT-operated meter – this model is for direct connection up to 100 A only.

    Practical example

    A company has a 22 kW three-phase charging point for employees' cars. A TD50MT is installed ahead of the charging point: 22 kW at 400 V corresponds to about 32 A per phase, so direct 100 A connection is suitable with margin. Tariff segments are set according to the supplier's plan (e.g. night 23:00–07:00), and over a month the meter shows that 1,850 kWh out of 2,400 kWh was charged on the night tariff – accounting gets a precise internal allocation, and the Modbus registers pass the same data to the building's BMS.

    Pros

    • Class 0.5 accuracy – more accurate than typical Class 1 monitoring meters.
    • Direct 100 A connection – no CT, faster and cheaper installation.
    • Bidirectional metering – suitable for generating sites.
    • 4 tariffs / 8 segments – cost analysis by time of day.
    • Two protocols – Modbus RTU and DLT645-2007 in one device.
    • Pulse output – an extra metering channel independent of the bus.

    Cons / limitations

    • No MID approval – not suitable for official metering or billing tenants or a supplier.
    • Digital LED display only – no graphs, parameters are viewed one at a time.
    • No built-in Wi-Fi or Ethernet – remote monitoring needs an external RS485 gateway.
    • Modbus configuration (address, baud rate, register map) requires basic knowledge.
    • Direct connection only up to 100 A – higher supplies need a CT-operated model.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Install only with the supply switched off and the absence of voltage checked – the meter connects directly to the phases.
    • An overcurrent protection device is required upstream of the meter – the meter does not protect against overload or short circuit.
    • Select conductor cross-section according to the actual supply current; tighten terminals to the manufacturer's specified torque.
    • Use screened twisted-pair cable for the RS485 bus, with 120 Ω terminating resistors at the ends.
    • Follow the phase and neutral sequence – incorrect connection will show power and PF incorrectly.
    • Operating temperature -25…+55 °C – leave a ventilation gap in the board next to equipment that runs hot.

    Quick selection guide

    Maximum current
    100 A (direct connection)
    Rated voltage
    3×230/400 V
    Tariffs and communication
    4 tariffs, 8 time segments; RS485 Modbus RTU / DLT645-2007

    Suitable when you need:
    • tariff-based and bidirectional metering for internal allocation up to 100 A;
    • power, PF and energy data for a BMS or SCADA system via Modbus RTU;
    • a pulse output for parallel counting.
    Check before use:
    • whether MID approval is not required (for billing, this is not the right model);
    • whether the supply current does not exceed 100 A;
    • whether the network type matches the 1P2W / 3P3W / 3P4W setting;
    • whether you have an RS485 gateway, if remote monitoring is required.
    Important reminder:
    The meter's readings are technical metering data – they can support internal cost allocation and an energy audit, but not an invoice to a third party. For legal metering, choose an MID-approved version.

    FAQ

    Can it be used for tenant billing?
    For internal allocation – yes, but legal billing requires an MID-approved meter, e.g. the TD50MTMID.
    Are current transformers needed?
    No – up to 100 A the meter connects directly. For higher currents, choose a CT-operated model.
    Does it measure energy fed back by a solar plant?
    Yes, import and export are accumulated in separate registers.
    How are tariff times set?
    Via the meter's menu or Modbus registers – up to 8 time segments are assigned to 4 tariffs.
    Can it be connected to Wi-Fi or Tuya?
    Only via an external RS485 gateway – there is no built-in wireless connection.
    Is it suitable for a single-phase circuit?
    Yes, 1P2W mode is supported, but then only one measuring circuit is used.
