  • Three-phase energy meter | 100 A | 3×230/400 V | LED display | RS485 Modbus RTU | DIN | Rayfull TD50DS

    TD50DS – a Rayfull three-phase energy meter with MID approval, direct connection up to 100 A and an RS485 Modbus RTU interface, mounted on a DIN rail. Designed for sub-metering and billing metering: rented premises, garages, workshops, separate building lines, and for monitoring household and solar power consumption where legally recognised kWh readings are required.

    Key idea:
    This is a basic MID meter with no extra functions – a single active-energy register, Class B / Class C accuracy to EN 50470-3:2022, and a Modbus output. When the task is to bill a tenant according to actual consumption or feed metering data into a building system, you need certified readings, not "approximate" ones – and there is no need to pay extra for tariffs or power-analyser functions that no one will use in this case.

    How it works

    The meter is connected directly into the three-phase circuit: the rated current Ib is 5 A, and the maximum Imax is 100 A, so up to this limit no current transformers are needed. Phase currents are measured by internal circuits, voltage is taken from the input terminals, and their product is used to calculate active power, which is integrated into an energy register with a capacity of 9,999,999.9 kWh.

    MID (Measuring Instruments Directive 2014/32/EU) approval means the meter's measuring circuit has been verified to EN 50470-3:2022 and its readings can serve as a legal basis for billing – just like the supplier's incoming meter. Readings are shown on the LED display and can be read out via RS485 Modbus RTU, so a monthly report can be generated automatically, without a physical site visit.

    What makes the TD50DS worthwhile?
    It lets you legitimately pass electricity costs on to a tenant or department: MID approval gives the readings legal force, Modbus RTU gives automatic read-out, and the 100 x 72 x 66 mm DIN housing fits into any distribution board next to the circuit breakers.

    Key features

    • MID-certified metering – readings are valid for billing metering with tenants, departments and other third parties.
    • Class B / Class C accuracy – meets EN 50470-3:2022 requirements for billing meters.
    • RS485 Modbus RTU – remote read-out of readings into a BMS, IoT platform or accounting software.
    • Direct connection up to 100 A – no CT required, less installation work and fewer errors.
    • Large register – up to 9,999,999.9 kWh, suitable for long-term industrial metering too.
    • Compact DIN housing – standard 100 x 72 x 66 mm format for modular distribution boards.

    Where is it used?

    • Sub-metering of rented commercial premises and offices
    • Separate metering of apartment-block common areas and garages
    • Three-phase supplies for workshops and warehouses
    • Cost allocation for production departments based on certified readings
    • Energy monitoring for solar power plants ("dual grid")
    • Three-phase consumption metering in private homes
    • Building management systems with automatic Modbus read-out
    • Internal metering for allotment and housing cooperatives

    Use by need

    For the domestic user.
    If you're renting out a garage, workshop or part of a flat, the TD50DS lets you bill the tenant on MID-approved readings rather than a rough estimate – protecting both sides from disputes. In a home with a solar plant it is suitable for tracking overall three-phase consumption.
    For businesses and industry.
    In a business centre or production park, a separate MID meter for each tenant, linked over an RS485 bus to the administrator's system, produces a monthly report for the whole building within minutes. If you also need day/night tariffs, choose the TD50MTMID.
    For electricians / engineers.
    Before installation, make sure the supply current is ≤ 100 A (for higher currents, use a CT-operated meter), the wiring diagram matches the manufacturer's instructions, and the Modbus address and baud rate match the controller settings. If the project requires an S0 pulse output, this model doesn't have one – choose the TD50MT.

    Practical example

    The owner of a business centre lets out 6 units, each with a three-phase supply up to 40 A. A TD50DS is installed on each supply, and all six are linked by a single RS485 line to the building controller. At the end of the month the system reads the registers: e.g. unit 2 – 1,240 kWh, unit 5 – 3,780 kWh – and generates invoices automatically. Because the meters carry MID approval, tenants cannot dispute the readings, and the administrator doesn't need to walk round the boards.

    Pros

    • MID approval – legitimate metering and billing.
    • Modbus RTU – automatic read-out without manual involvement.
    • 100 A direct – no CT and no CT installation.
    • Simple – a single register, minimal configuration.
    • Wide temperature range – from -25 to +55 °C.
    • Standard DIN format – quick replacement and installation.

    Cons / limitations

    • No pulse (S0) output – not suitable for pulse totalisers or older controllers.
    • Single tariff – no day/night split (for that, see the TD50MTMID).
    • LED display only – no graphs and no mechanical counter.
    • No built-in Wi-Fi or Ethernet – remote read-out needs an RS485 gateway.
    • Direct connection limited to 100 A – higher supplies need a CT-operated model.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Install only with the supply switched off and checked with a voltage indicator – the terminals carry phase voltage.
    • An overcurrent protection device rated to the supply current is required upstream of the meter – the meter does not protect the circuit.
    • Do not break the MID seal – opening the housing invalidates the certified metering.
    • Follow the phase sequence and neutral connection as per the wiring diagram – otherwise the readings will be incorrect.
    • Use screened twisted-pair cable for the RS485 line, with 120 Ω terminating resistors at each end.
    • Check and retighten the terminals after the first weeks under load.

    Communication
    RS485, Modbus RTU
    Approvals and mounting
    MID, CE, RoHS; DIN rail
    Suitable when you need:
    • legitimate sub-metering for tenants or departments up to 100 A;
    • automatic reading via RS485 Modbus RTU;
    • a simple, single-register MID meter with no tariffs.
    Check before use:
    • whether an S0 pulse output is not required;
    • whether tariffs are not required (if they are, choose the TD50MTMID);
    • whether the supply current does not exceed 100 A;
    • whether local regulations accept an MID meter for your billing case.
    Important reminder:
    The MID approval applies to the meter's measuring circuit – it does not replace the supplier's incoming meter and does not authorise reselling electricity above the purchase price, unless local rules permit it.

    FAQ

    Can a tenant be billed on this meter's readings?
    Yes – MID approval gives the readings legal force.
    Does it have day/night tariffs?
    No, a single register. For tariffs, choose the TD50MTMID.
    Are current transformers needed?
    No, connection is direct up to 100 A.
    Is there an S0 pulse output?
    No – data is read out via RS485 Modbus RTU.
    How does it differ from the TD50DSS?
    The TD50DSS is a monitoring device without MID approval; the TD50DS is a certified billing meter.
    Can readings be read on a phone?
    Only via an external RS485 gateway with an app – there is no built-in wireless connection.
