  • 3-phase energy meter via CT | x/1 A and x/5 A | 3×230/400 V | Modbus RS-485 | DIN | Schneider Electric Acti9 iEM3250 | A9MEM3250

Schneider Electric Acti9 iEM3250 A9MEM3250 is a modular 3-phase energy meter connected via external current transformers x/1 A or x/5 A. It is designed for higher-current circuits where a direct meter cannot be used, with data transferred over Modbus RS-485.

    Key point:
iEM3250 is a simple and accurate solution for measuring active energy and basic network values via CTs and passing them to a control system over Modbus. For MID billing metering choose iEM3255.

    via CT x/1 A or x/5 A
    Accuracy
    cl. 0.5S (IEC 62053-22)
    Communication
    Modbus RTU RS-485

    Operating principle

The meter is mounted on a DIN rail. Current circuits are connected via external current transformers, voltage circuits directly or via voltage transformers.

The CT ratio (primary current up to 32,767 A) and network type – 3P, 3P+N or 1P+N – are set in the meter.

The device counts active energy (total, partial and per phase) and shows current, voltage, power, power factor and frequency.

    Why choose iEM3250?
Accurate active energy metering via CTs and easy integration into SCADA or BMS over Modbus.

    Main functions

    • Connection via CT x/1 A and x/5 A – suits any incomer current.
    • Active energy class 0.5S – accurate consumption metering.
    • Modbus RTU RS-485 – data to SCADA, BMS or energy management.
    • Partial counter – energy for a selected period.
    • Per-phase metering – easier to spot load imbalance.

    Where is it used?

    • Building and plant incomers with current transformers
    • Tenant and zone metering
    • PV generation and consumption metering
    • Energy monitoring of production lines
    • Energy management and BMS systems
    • Panel building and retrofit

    Use by need

    For the facility manager.
Shows real consumption and allows remote monitoring.
For the automation / SCADA integrator.
Modbus RTU registers make the meter quick to integrate.
    For the installing electrician.
5-module DIN housing and clear CT ratio setting – easy installation.

    Practical use

If a production line needs energy metering via 400/5 A current transformers shown in SCADA, iEM3250 is connected via CTs, the ratio 400/5 is set and the data is read over Modbus RS-485.

    Pros

    • Connection via CT x/1 A and x/5 A
    • Accuracy class 0.5S
    • Modbus RTU RS-485
    • Compact – 5 modules
    • Simple configuration

    Cons / limitations

    • No MID – for billing choose iEM3255
    • Does not measure reactive energy
    • No tariffs or pulse output
    • External current transformers required

    Safety and installation notes

    • Switch off and verify absence of voltage before wiring.
    • Never open CT secondary circuits under load – use shorting terminals.
    • Observe CT direction (P1→P2) and phase matching with the voltage inputs.
    • Protect voltage circuits as specified by the manufacturer.
    • Installation must be done by a qualified electrician.
