  • Industrial interlocked switched socket | 1×16 A 5P 400 V 6h | horizontal | IP44 | SEZ BZS 1653

SEZ BZS 1653 – SEZ industrial CEE 16 A 5P 400 V socket with switch and mechanical interlock, horizontal layout. The interlock prevents the plug from being withdrawn or inserted while the switch is on: the socket is live only after the plug is inserted and the switch is turned on.

    Key point:
The three-phase machine is switched on and off with the switch, not by pulling the plug under load. This means less arcing and contact wear, and the operator cannot pull the plug from a live socket. There is no MCB or RCD in the socket – protection stays in the supply board.

    How it works

Connection: a 5-core cable (L1, L2, L3, N, PE) is connected to the screw terminals. The electrician selects the cable cross-section and entry according to the line and the manufacturer datasheet.

Operation: with the CEE 16 A 5P plug inserted the switch can be turned on – the socket then receives three phases, N and PE (400 V). While the switch is on, the plug is locked.

Protection: there is no MCB or RCD in the socket. The line is protected in the supply board by an MCB (not above 16 A) and a 30 mA RCD; IP44 applies with the socket lid closed.

    Why choose SEZ BZS 1653?
An interlocked socket reduces risk where equipment is connected and disconnected often: the plug is never broken under load. It is a simple way to make a three-phase connection point safer without a separate switch next to it.

    Main functions

    • CEE 16 A 5P 400 V socket – for three-phase equipment with a 5P plug
    • Switch – the machine is switched with the switch, not the plug
    • Mechanical interlock – the plug cannot be withdrawn while the switch is on
    • IP44 – protection against splashing water with the lid closed
    • Screw terminals – simple cable connection
    • −25…+55 °C – suitable for unheated rooms

How does it differ from similar products?

    SEZ BZS 3253 (2381) 32 A 5P switched interlocked socket, IP44 – for a more powerful machine.
    Scame 405.3287 (2382) 32 A 5P surface-mounted switched interlocked socket, IP66/IP67 – for wet areas and outdoors.
Famatel 26012 (8484) Another maker's 16 A socket with isolator and mechanical interlock – an alternative by enclosure need.
    SEZ ROS 4/V-12 (573) 1×16 A 5P + 2×230 V 16 A with 0–1 switch, IP44, no interlock – when 230 V outlets are also needed next to the three-phase one.

    Where is it used?

    • Workshops and production halls
    • Garages and car service shops
    • Connection points for compressors, pumps and heaters
    • Farm buildings and barns
    • Warehouses and logistics areas
    • Places where equipment is switched often

    Use by need

    Beginner.
Insert the plug fully, then turn the switch on; before pulling the plug – switch off. Leave the socket installation to an electrician.
    Experienced installer.
Select the cable by line and terminals, check phase sequence and the PE circuit; do not dismantle the interlock mechanism.
    Power engineer / designer.
The socket is an end point without protection: design an MCB (not above 16 A) and a 30 mA RCD in the supply board. The switch controls only the socket and is not a line isolator.

    Practical use

In a workshop a SEZ BZS 1653 is installed next to a compressor: the operator inserts the plug and turns the switch on, and after work first switches off and only then withdraws the plug. The line is protected in the board by an MCB and a 30 mA RCD.

    Pros / advantages

    • The plug cannot be withdrawn under load
    • Less arcing and contact wear
    • Switch and socket in one housing
    • Wide operating temperature range −25…+55 °C
    • Screw terminals

    Cons / limitations

    • No MCB or RCD – protection must be in the board
    • IP44 – needs cover outdoors; for wet areas choose Scame 405.3287 (IP66/IP67)
    • Only one socket – for several loads choose a socket box with more outlets
    • The switch is not a line isolator – for work inside the socket switch off at the board

    Safety and installation notes

    • ⚡ Connection and testing must be done by a qualified electrician, with the supply switched off.
    • ⚡ There is no MCB or RCD in the socket: protect the line with an MCB sized to the cable, not above 16 A, and a 30 mA RCD.
    • The switch controls only the socket – it is not a protective device or a line isolator; switch off at the board before opening the housing.
    • The CEE 400 V socket must not be used on a single-phase line – a three-phase 5-core supply is required.
    • On construction sites connect only from a site distribution board (HD 60364-7-704).
    • IP44 applies only with the socket lid closed and the cable properly sealed.
    • Check PE continuity and phase sequence; do not dismantle or bypass the interlock.

    Quick selection guide

    1×CEE 16 A 5P 400 V
    Switch + interlock
    IP44
    −25…+55 °C
    Suitable when you need:
    • Safe connection and disconnection of three-phase equipment
    • Preventing the plug being pulled under load
    • A single socket for a specific machine
    Check before choosing:
    • Does the load have a CEE 16 A 5P plug
    • Is there a ≤16 A MCB and a 30 mA RCD in the board
    • Is the location protected from rain (IP44)
    • Does the horizontal socket layout suit the installation
Important reminder: A switched socket does not replace protection: the MCB and 30 mA RCD must be in the supply board, and the switch is not a line isolator.

    FAQ

Can the plug be withdrawn while the switch is on?
No – the mechanical interlock prevents it. Switch off first, then withdraw the plug.
Does the socket contain an MCB or RCD?
No. An MCB (not above 16 A) and a 30 mA RCD must be in the supply board.
Does the switch replace a machine isolator?
No. It controls only the socket; for work inside the socket or on the line switch off at the board.
Can it be fed from a single-phase line?
    No. It is a 5-pole 400 V socket – a three-phase 5-core supply is required.
    Is it suitable outdoors?
IP44 protects against splashes, but outdoors it needs cover. For wet areas choose an IP66/IP67 socket.
    What is the operating temperature?
According to the manufacturer −25…+55 °C.
