  • 4-Source Automatic Transfer Switch ATS | 2P | 100A | 230V AC | Voltage and Overcurrent Protection | Feedback Contacts

Smart 4-input Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) designed for single-phase 230V AC systems using several independent power sources. The device can automatically select one of up to 4 power inputs, monitor their voltage, load current and fault conditions, and transfer the load to another suitable source.

The transfer switch features a 2-pole design, meaning that both the phase and neutral conductors are switched during transfer. Integrated protection against overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and overheating, manual and automatic operating modes, adjustable delay times, selectable source priority, timer function, audible fault alarm and potential-free COM/NO/NC feedback contacts are provided.

Up to 4 independent power sources

The device can be used with different single-phase power sources, such as the utility grid, generator, solar inverter or energy storage system. If the priority source fails or moves outside the permitted parameters, the load is automatically transferred to another available source according to the configured priority sequence.

    Operating principle

The main function is to automatically maintain power to the load when one of the electrical power sources fails or its parameters become unsuitable. The device continuously monitors the connected inputs and selects an appropriate power source according to the configured priority.

    Situation Operation
L1 operates normally The load is supplied from L1 if it is configured as the priority source.
L1 fails or moves outside the configured limits Another suitable source, for example L2, is selected automatically.
L2 becomes unsuitable The system can transfer to L3 and subsequently to L4.
Priority source is restored After the configured delay time, the system can automatically return to the priority input.
Manual mode The power source can be selected manually.

    Power source priority selection

    Configurable source priority

A typical transfer sequence can be L1 → L2 → L3 → L4. For example, L1 can be the main utility grid, L2 a generator, L3 a solar inverter and L4 an additional backup source. The priority sequence can be changed according to the requirements of the specific system.

2-pole switching – phase and neutral

Each input is 2P, meaning that not only the phase conductor but also the neutral conductor is switched. This allows the selected source to be fully isolated from the other inputs and is particularly relevant in systems using generators, inverters or other independent power sources.

Important information regarding the neutral conductor

The neutral and protective earth arrangement of a generator, inverter or other backup source must be designed according to the specific electrical installation. 2P switching itself does not replace the requirement to correctly design the N and PE conductor system.

    Integrated protection functions

    Protection Function
Overvoltage protection Disconnects or prevents the use of a source when its voltage exceeds the configured limit.
Undervoltage protection Protects the load from operation at excessively low supply voltage.
Overcurrent protection Monitors the load current and responds when the configured limit is exceeded.
Overtemperature protection Monitors the device temperature and indicates an abnormal condition.
This is not a surge protective device (SPD)

The integrated overvoltage function monitors the mains voltage level. It does not replace a separate SPD designed to limit lightning-induced or other transient surge voltages.

    Display and indication

The integrated display allows monitoring of the voltage of all four inputs and the output load current. Additional indicators provide information about faults, overcurrent, temperature alarm, timer operation, power status and audible alarm status.

    Indicator / control Function
Main switch Main power / control button.
    Menu Settings menu.
Timer Timer ON / OFF function.
    Fault Fault indicator.
    Temp Temperature alarm indicator.
    Over current Overcurrent indication.
    Mute Audible alarm mute.
    Power Power indication.

    Automatic and manual transfer

The device supports automatic and manual source selection. In automatic mode, the power inputs are continuously monitored, while in manual mode a specific source can be selected by the operator.

    Adjustable protection and delay parameters

    Overvoltage setting range 120–300V
    Undervoltage setting range 80–210V
    Overcurrent setting range 1–100A
    Overcurrent delay 0.1–30s
    Power-on delay 1–999s
    Transfer delay 1–999s

    Potential-free feedback contacts

COM / NO / NC dry contacts

The feedback output is potential-free. It does not itself provide 12V, 24V or 230V. The contacts operate as a conventional relay changeover contact: COM, NO and NC. An external PLC, controller, alarm system or other device provides the voltage used for the signal circuit.

What information can be transmitted via the dry contacts?

    Signal group Typical statuses
Power supply status Main supply normal, backup supply normal, mains failure / undervoltage.
ATS status Selected power source, transfer status, transfer fault.
Alarm ATS fault, abnormal voltage, transfer timeout or another control signal.
The exact feedback signal depends on the specific output wiring diagram

COM/NO/NC contacts alone do not indicate which specific status is assigned to them. Before connecting the contacts to a PLC, generator controller or alarm system, the contact diagram for the specific device must be followed.

    Dedicated generator control contacts

The device can be used in systems where a generator is used as a backup power source. A dedicated generator control signal can be used together with the generator controller for automatic starting or stopping.

    Typical generator control sequence

Main utility supply fails → ATS detects the fault → dry contact changes state → generator controller receives a start command → once the generator reaches acceptable electrical parameters, the ATS transfers the load.

    ATS + PLC

In industrial and automation systems, the feedback dry contacts can be connected to PLC digital inputs. The PLC can record the time of a mains failure, transfer time and selected power source and use this information to control other equipment.

    • Power failure logging
    • Transfer time logging
    • Interlocking of motors, fans or pumps
    • Alarm activation
    • Remote ATS status monitoring

ATS + inverter / energy storage system

The transfer switch can be integrated into systems with grid-connected inverters or energy storage systems when it is necessary to determine which power source is currently supplying the load. A dry contact can be used as a logic signal for other control equipment.

The ATS is not a power source synchronisation device

This type of transfer switch is designed to select one power source. It is not intended to synchronise the phases of different AC sources or operate them in parallel. The generator and inverter must have their own appropriate control and protection systems.

Remote monitoring / BMS / EMS

The feedback contacts can be connected to a data acquisition module, PLC or building management system. This allows ATS status signals to be transmitted to a BMS, EMS or remote monitoring platform.

    Practical application example

A facility uses the main utility grid, a backup generator and a solar inverter. L1 is selected as the main source. If L1 fails or its voltage moves outside the configured limits, the ATS selects another suitable source after the configured delay time. At the same time, a dry contact can transmit a signal to the generator controller or PLC. When the priority L1 supply is restored, the system automatically transfers the load back to the main source after the configured delay.
