Photo relay with built-in sensor | wall-mounted | 10 A | 10–250 lx | ES-G02
ES-G02 is a wall-mounted twilight switch with the light sensor built into the housing. It switches lighting on at dusk and off at dawn by itself. The relay is fixed to an outside wall, so it needs neither panel space nor a separate sensor cable. Suitable for yard, entrance, path and small site lighting.
Key point:
The switch-on and switch-off thresholds are different: ON at 10–100 lx, OFF at 40–250 lx. This gap between thresholds prevents the relay from chattering at dusk and lets you adapt the switching point to the specific location.Supply

IP44, wall mountingOperating principle
The sensor built into the housing continuously measures ambient light. When light falls below the switch-on threshold, the relay turns the lighting on; when it rises above the switch-off threshold, it turns it off.
The switch-on threshold is set within 10–100 lx, the switch-off threshold within 40–250 lx. The switch-off threshold is always higher, so the relay ignores small light fluctuations at dusk and dawn.
As the sensor sits in the housing, the mounting location is what matters most: the relay must see natural daylight but must not be lit by the luminaires it controls.
Why separate switch-on and switch-off thresholds?
If the relay switched on and off at the same threshold, the lighting could flicker at dusk. The gap between the switch-on (10–100 lx) and switch-off (40–250 lx) thresholds ensures the lighting switches on once in the evening and off once in the morning.Technical specifications
Product type Wall-mounted twilight switch (photo relay) with built-in light sensor Manufacturer / model Elsp Group ES-G02 Supply voltage 220–240 V AC Switching current 10 A Light sensitivity range 10–250 lx, adjustable Switch-on threshold (ON) 10–100 lx Switch-off threshold (OFF) 40–250 lx Protection rating IP44 Light sensor built into the housing Mounting on a wall, outdoors Main functions
- Automatic switch-on at dusk – lighting is on only when it is dark.
- Adjustable thresholds 10–250 lx – adapt the switching point to the location.
- Separate ON / OFF thresholds – no flickering at dusk.
- Built-in sensor – no separate sensor or sensor cable needed.
- IP44 housing – mounted outdoors on a wall.
How does it differ from similar models?
- ES-G03 – Wall-mounted relay of the same class, 10 A, but with a narrower 10–40 lx threshold and a better sealed IP65 housing.
- 65593 – 25 A output and 10–100 lx threshold – when a larger load is switched directly.
- HOROZ 0890010001 – A simpler relay: 6 A, 5–15 lx, IP44 – for small loads and switching on only in full darkness.
- F&F AWZ – Built-in IP65 sensor, 16 A and a wider 2–1000 lx threshold.
Where is it used?
- Yard, path and entrance lighting
- House facade and terrace luminaires
- Entrances of garages, outbuildings and warehouses
- Small car park lighting
- Sign and advertising lettering lighting
- Replacing timers and manual switches in outdoor lighting
Use by need
For the electrician.
The relay mounts directly on the wall next to the luminaires – no panel space and no separate sensor cable.For the home or farmstead owner.
The yard and entrance are lit every evening without adjusting a timer, and luminaires are not wasted during the day.For the company or farm manager.
Entrance and site lighting follows real light – less electricity and less manual work.Practical use
If the yard luminaire by the garage has so far been switched manually, ES-G02 can be installed straight into the existing line before the luminaire. Fix the relay to the wall where the luminaire's own light does not reach it and set the switch-on threshold to about 10–20 lx. From then on the luminaire comes on at dusk and goes off at dawn without any intervention.Pros
- Built-in light sensor
- Adjustable thresholds 10–250 lx
- Separate switch-on and switch-off thresholds – no flickering
- IP44 housing for outdoor wall mounting
- No panel space needed
Cons / limitations
- 10 A output – for LED drivers and floodlights with high inrush current use a modular contactor
- IP44 – where the relay is directly exposed to rain, choose ES-G03 (IP65) or mount it under a canopy
- No timer for switching off at night
⚠ Safety and installation notes
- Mount the relay where daylight reaches the sensor but the controlled luminaires do not – otherwise the relay will start switching itself off.
- Do not point the sensor into direct sun or towards the road where car headlights hit it.
- IP44 housing – mount the relay vertically on the wall with cables entering from below so that water does not get inside.
- For larger loads the relay must control a contactor coil, not the luminaire group directly.
- Supply voltage is 220–240 V AC; protect the circuit with a suitable circuit breaker.
- Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician after disconnecting and verifying the absence of voltage.
Quick selection guide
10–250 lx10 A220–240 V ACIP44, wall-mountedSuitable when you need to:- switch yard or entrance lighting on automatically at dusk;
- have a relay without panel space – directly on the wall;
- adjust the switch-on and switch-off point.
Check before use:- load type and inrush current (LED – via a contactor);
- the mounting location – the relay must see daylight but not its own luminaires;
- whether the location is protected from direct rain (IP44).
Important reminder: a photo relay controls lighting by light level, but it does not replace protective devices and does not switch lighting off in the middle of the night – that requires a relay with a timer.☝ Elsprendimai.eu recommends:- Modular contactors – when the LED or floodlight group exceeds the relay's capability.
- Modular time relays – when lighting must be switched off after a set time.
- Photo relays and twilight switches – all twilight switches in one place.
FAQ
What threshold should be set for yard lighting?
Switch-on at 10–20 lx is usually enough; the switch-off threshold is higher, so the lighting goes off in the morning once it is light.Why do the switch-on and switch-off thresholds differ?
This is hysteresis – it prevents the lighting from flickering at dusk.Can LED floodlights be connected directly?
A small load – yes, but for larger LED groups use a modular contactor because of inrush current.Can the relay be mounted outdoors?
Yes, the housing is IP44 – mount it on a wall with cables entering from below, and under a canopy where exposed to rain.Is a separate sensor needed?
No, the light sensor is built into the relay housing.Photo relay with built-in sensor | wall-mounted | 10 A | 10–250 lx | ES-G02
