Smart CO₂ meter with WiFi (Tuya) – NDIR, 400–5000 ppm, temperature and humidity, Elsp Group ES-TWNC5000
The Elsp Group ES-TWNC5000 is a free-standing smart CO₂ meter with an NDIR sensor that measures carbon dioxide concentration in the 400–5000 ppm range, as well as temperature and relative humidity. Data is sent via WiFi to the Tuya Smart app, where its history is also available. It runs on a rechargeable 1600 mAh battery, so it can be placed wherever needed – on a desk, shelf or windowsill.
⚠ A CO₂ meter is not a carbon monoxide (CO) or gas leak detector and does not replace them.Key point:
The CO₂ level shows directly whether a room is ventilated enough: with many people and little air exchange, CO₂ rises, and so do tiredness and loss of concentration. The meter shows when it is time to open a window or increase ventilation, and the adjustable alarm reminds you. The history in the app helps assess how the room is ventilated over a day or a week.CO₂ sensor

1600 mAhOperating principle
An NDIR (non-dispersive infrared) sensor sends an infrared beam through a measuring chamber. CO₂ molecules absorb radiation at a specific wavelength, so the more CO₂, the weaker the signal reaching the detector. This is a direct CO₂ measurement, not an estimate calculated from other gases.
Temperature and relative humidity are measured as well – the three main indoor climate values in one device.
Readings are sent via WiFi to the Tuya Smart app: the phone shows current values and historical data, and the CO₂ alarm threshold can be set or the alarm switched off.
Why use a smart CO₂ meter?
It turns invisible air quality into a number. In an office, classroom or bedroom you see immediately whether ventilation is sufficient, and the history supports decisions – whether a heat recovery unit, more frequent airing or a different operating mode is needed.Technical specifications

How does it differ from similar products?
Cheap eCO₂ (VOC-based) meters estimate CO₂ from other gases and are often inaccurate; an NDIR sensor measures CO₂ directly. Duct or wall CO₂ sensors with 0–10 V output designed to control a ventilation unit; this meter is for monitoring and informing people via the app. CO detector detects toxic carbon monoxide and is a safety device; a CO₂ meter shows ventilation quality. Where is it used?
- Offices and meeting rooms
- School classrooms and kindergartens
- Bedrooms and children's rooms
- Home offices
- Waiting rooms and customer service areas
- Checking a heat recovery unit after installation
Use by experience level
Beginner.
Switch it on, pair it with the Tuya Smart app and set the CO₂ alarm threshold – nothing else is needed.Advanced installer.
Use it as a verification tool: compare the CO₂ history before and after commissioning a heat recovery unit and show the customer the real difference.Energy engineer / designer.
Log CO₂, temperature and humidity for several days to obtain solid data for assessing ventilation demand and airflow.Practical application
Six people work in a small office ventilated only through windows. The meter is placed on a desk in the work zone and the alarm is set to the chosen CO₂ limit. After a week, the history in the app shows that CO₂ regularly rises in the afternoon – a clear argument for a ventilation system or more frequent airing.Pros / advantages
- NDIR sensor – direct CO₂ measurement
- CO₂, temperature and humidity in one device
- Readings and history in the Tuya Smart app
- Adjustable alarm that can be switched off
- Rechargeable battery – no permanent cable
- Compact and light – 150 g
Cons / limitations
- No analogue or Modbus output – does not control a ventilation unit directly
- Device language – English
- The battery has to be recharged periodically
- App functions require a WiFi network
Safety and usage notes
- ⚠ A CO₂ meter does not replace CO, smoke or gas leak detectors.
- ⚠ Do not use in explosive atmospheres – the device has no Ex certification.
- ⚠ Charge only with a suitable power supply and do not leave near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
- ⚠ Do not place directly in front of people's breathing zone, windows or ventilation openings – readings will be distorted.
- ⚠ Protect from water and condensation – the housing is intended for dry rooms.
Quick selection guide
NDIR CO₂400–5000 ppmWiFi / Tuya1600 mAhSuitable when you need to:- monitor the indoor CO₂ level on your phone
- get a reminder to ventilate
- see CO₂, temperature and humidity history
- use a portable meter without a permanent cable
Check before choosing:- whether WiFi is available in the room (most Tuya WiFi devices work only on 2.4 GHz networks)
- whether an English device interface is acceptable
- whether you need a signal to control a ventilation unit
- whether a separate CO detector is needed for safety
Important reminder: This meter informs about air quality but does not control ventilation itself and does not replace safety detectors. For automatic control, choose a CO₂ sensor with 0–10 V, 4–20 mA or Modbus output.☝ Elsprendimai.eu recommends:- CO₂ sensors with analogue or Modbus output – when ventilation must be controlled automatically.
- Temperature and humidity sensors – for indoor climate measurement in building automation.

FAQ
What does NDIR mean?
It is a non-dispersive infrared sensor: it measures how much infrared radiation is absorbed by CO₂. This is more accurate than estimating CO₂ from other gases. What CO₂ level can it measure?
The measuring range is 400–5000 ppm.Does the meter work without WiFi?
It still measures, but phone readings, history and remote settings are available only via WiFi and the Tuya Smart app.Can the alarm be switched off?
Yes, the CO₂ alarm is adjustable – it can be switched on or off.Does it control a heat recovery unit or fan?
No, the meter has no control outputs. Ventilation control requires a CO₂ sensor with 0–10 V, 4–20 mA or Modbus output. Is it a carbon monoxide (CO) detector?
No. CO₂ and CO are different gases. In rooms with boilers or stoves, use a separate certified CO detector.Sources: Elsp Group product data; NDIR operating principle – general technical information. Checked 2026-10-18.
