    Code: AZ 112

DIN rail twilight switch with hermetic IP65 sensor: 2–1000 lx, 1NO 16 A, LED up to 250 W, 1 module.

  • Modular photo relay with external sensor | 16 A | 2–1000 lx | F&F AZ-112

F&F AZ-112 is a twilight switch from the Polish manufacturer F&F that turns lighting on at dusk and off at dawn. The relay is mounted in the panel on a DIN rail (1 module, 18 mm), while light is measured by a hermetic Ø10 mm IP65 sensor installed outdoors. The 2–1000 lx range suits street and yard lighting as well as shop windows or signage that must switch on earlier.

    Key point:
AZ-112 is a simple, clear relay: one adjustment knob, 1 module and manufacturer-stated loads by luminaire type. You know in advance how many incandescent, fluorescent or LED luminaires can be connected directly and when a contactor is needed.
    Sensitivity
    2–1000 lx
    Output
    1NO, 16 A AC1
    LED load
    up to 250 W
    Sensor
    IP65, cable up to 10 m
    Mounting
    1 module (18 mm), DIN

    Operating principle

The external sensor continuously measures ambient illuminance. When light falls below the set threshold, the relay closes the output contact and turns the lighting on; when light rises above the threshold plus hysteresis (about 15 lx), the contact opens.

The threshold is set with a front-panel potentiometer within 2–1000 lx: turning towards the moon symbol makes lighting switch on later, towards the sun – earlier.

Switch-on is delayed by about 10 s and switch-off by about 20 s. This way the relay ignores car headlights, lightning or a short shadow.

    Why 2–1000 lx?
Street and yard lighting is usually switched on at 5–20 lx, shop windows and signage at 30–80 lx. The upper limit of 1000 lx allows lighting to switch on as soon as the sky clouds over, e.g. a shop sign on a dark winter day.

    Main functions

    • Wide 2–1000 lx range – from deep dusk to an overcast day.
    • Hermetic IP65 sensor – Ø10 mm, easy to mount outdoors, cable up to 10 m.
    • Stated loads – incandescent 2000 W, fluorescent 600 VA, LED 250 W.
    • Separated contact – a circuit on another phase or voltage can be switched.
    • Protection against false triggering – hysteresis and delay ignore short light changes.
    • Compact housing – 1 module on the DIN rail.

How does it differ from similar models?

    • VEXEN TWR1 – 1–100 lx and a wide 110–240 V AC supply, AUTO / ON / OFF modes – when manual switch-on without disconnecting the automation is needed.
    • VEXEN TWR923 – Two ranges 1–1000 lx and 10–10,000 lx, operating temperature −35…+75 °C – when the threshold may reach thousands of lux.
    • Promfactor FRS21 – 2–100 lx, 25 A changeover 1CO contact, 2 modules – when more current headroom is needed.
    • GTV CZ-1 – Narrower 2–100 lx range, IP65 sensor – for simple outdoor lighting.

    Where is it used?

    • Street and driveway lighting
    • Yard, path and car park luminaires
    • Facade, shop window and sign lighting
    • Switching on supplementary lighting when the day turns overcast
    • Floodlights at warehouses, farms and industrial sites
    • Replacing timers and manual switches in existing panels

    Use by need

    For the electrician.
Clear manufacturer loads by luminaire type, 1 module, a separated contact and a sensor cable up to 10 m.
For the home or farmstead owner.
The yard lighting switches on at dusk without adjusting a timer; a small LED group can be connected directly.
For the company or shop manager.
Signs and shop windows switch on not only in the evening but also on a dark day – according to real light.

    Practical use

If you need to control yard lighting – four 30 W LED floodlights (120 W in total) – AZ-112 can switch them directly, since the manufacturer allows up to 250 W of LED load. Mount the relay in the panel and the sensor on the north wall where the floodlights themselves do not light it, and set the threshold to about 10 lx. If more luminaires are added later and the total LED power exceeds 250 W, the relay must control a modular contactor coil.

    Pros

    • 2–1000 lx range
    • Manufacturer-stated LED load up to 250 W
    • Hermetic IP65 sensor, cable up to 10 m
    • Separated (potential-free) contact
    • Only 1 DIN module
    • Operating temperature −25…+50 °C

    Cons / limitations

    • LED load is limited to 250 W – for larger LED groups use a modular contactor
    • 1NO contact only – for a changeover contact choose Promfactor FRS21
    • No ON / OFF switch and no timer – VEXEN TWR1 suits manual control, VEXEN DTWR972 night-time switch-off

    ⚠ Safety and installation notes

    • Mount the sensor where daylight reaches it but the controlled luminaires do not – otherwise the relay will start switching itself off.
    • Do not point the sensor directly at the sun or towards the road where car headlights hit it.
    • The IP20 relay housing is intended for a panel – only the IP65 sensor is installed outdoors. Sensor cable length – up to 10 m.
    • Observe the loads: LED up to 250 W, fluorescent up to 600 VA, incandescent up to 2000 W. For a larger load the relay must control a contactor coil.
    • Use wire up to 2.5 mm² in the terminals, tightening torque 0.4 Nm; protect the circuit with a circuit breaker.
    • Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician after disconnecting and verifying the absence of voltage.

    Quick selection guide

    2–1000 lx
    1NO 16 A AC1
    LED up to 250 W
    1 DIN module
    Suitable when you need to:
    • switch outdoor lighting on automatically at dusk;
    • switch signs or shop windows on when the sky clouds over;
    • directly control a small LED group (up to 250 W).
    Check before use:
    • total LED power (up to 250 W, above that – a contactor);
    • where the sensor will be mounted and whether the cable stays within 10 m;
    • whether there is 1 free module in the panel.
Important reminder: a photo relay controls lighting by light level, but it does not replace protective devices and does not switch lighting off at midnight – that requires a timer.

    FAQ

What threshold should I set for yard lighting?
Usually 5–20 lx is enough; for shop windows and signage 30–80 lx.
How many LED luminaires can be connected directly?
The manufacturer states up to 250 W of LED load; for higher power use a modular contactor.
Can the sensor cable be extended?
Yes, the manufacturer allows a sensor cable of up to 10 m.
Where should the sensor be mounted?
Outdoors, on the north side of the building, where daylight reaches it but not the controlled luminaires or car headlights.
Why does the lighting not switch on immediately?
Switch-on is delayed by about 10 s and switch-off by about 20 s; this protects against false triggering.
Can the relay be installed outdoors?
No, the relay (IP20) is mounted in a panel on a DIN rail; only the IP65 sensor is installed outdoors.
