    THORGEON 01002 – a three-phase modular electricity meter, direct connection up to 80 A, DIN rail mounted, recording consumed energy on a single tariff. It is the simplest three-phase metering option for measuring consumption in homes, flats, rented premises, workshops and individual appliances, where tariffs, Modbus or network analysis are not needed.

    Key idea:
    Not every metering point needs an analyser. When the task is to find out how many kWh a workshop, tenant or heat pump has consumed, an accurate direct-connection meter up to 80 A with a pulse output is enough. The 01002 takes up little space in the board, needs no current transformers or configuration, and its 800 pulse/kWh output lets readings be passed to a controller later on, if required.

    How it works

    The three phase conductors and neutral are connected directly to the meter's terminals. Current up to 80 A flows through the internal measuring elements, voltage is measured from the same terminals, and from the product of current and voltage for each phase the meter calculates active power and accumulates total energy in kWh. The 5 A rated current is the base accuracy value, 80 A is the maximum permissible continuous current.

    Consumed energy is shown on the meter's display as a single cumulative register. For every kWh, the meter outputs 800 pulses via the pulse output – this signal is connected to an external pulse counter, PLC or home controller, which calculates consumption from the pulse count and can plot a load profile. The device has no other communication interfaces.

    What makes the THORGEON 01002 worthwhile?
    It is the least complex way to obtain three-phase metering in a distribution board: no transformers, no settings, no communication bus. The compact 76 x 65 x 100 mm housing fits into a standard board alongside circuit breakers, and the pulse output leaves the option of feeding data into a monitoring system later.

    Key features

    • Direct connection up to 80 A – no current transformers needed for most domestic and commercial supplies.
    • Three-phase active energy metering – cumulative kWh register on the LCD 6+2 digit display; accuracy class B / class 1.
    • Pulse output 800 pulse/kWh – transmission to a pulse counter, PLC or home controller.
    • DIN mounting – compact 76 x 65 x 100 mm housing (76 mm width) in a standard board; operating temperature −25…+55 °C.
    • Wide frequency range – 50–60 Hz networks.
    • No configuration – works immediately once installed, no settings required.

    Where is it used?

    • Detached houses and holiday homes with a three-phase supply – overall consumption control
    • Apartment blocks and housing associations – individual metering of flats or shared-service loads
    • Rented premises, warehouses and workshops with separate metering
    • Dedicated circuits for heat pumps, boilers and water heaters
    • Electric-vehicle charging points up to 80 A
    • Small production equipment and machine tools – consumption monitoring
    • Temporary construction distribution boards and site metering

    Use by need

    For the domestic user.
    If you want to know how many kWh a house, garage or heat pump consumes, and tariffs are not required, this is an adequate and inexpensive solution. Once installed in the board, readings are taken from the display just like an ordinary meter.
    For businesses and industry.
    Suitable for monitoring the consumption of individual circuits, tenants or equipment up to 80 A. The pulse output allows all such meters to be linked to a PLC or an energy-monitoring system via pulse inputs, without a separate communication bus.
    For electricians / engineers.
    Check the supply protection (no more than 80 A), the conductor cross-section and the phase-connection diagram on the housing. The meter has no MID approval and is therefore not suitable for billing metering – for that, choose the MID versions 01005, 01006 or 01007; if two tariffs are needed, choose the 01007; if Modbus or bidirectional measurement is needed, choose a multifunction model.

    Practical example

    In a workshop board with a 3 x 25 A supply, the THORGEON 01002 is installed directly after the main breaker. Over a month the display showed 640 kWh, and the pulse output (800 pulse/kWh) was connected to a simple controller that logs the pulse count every hour. The graph showed that about 120 kWh per month was consumed outside working hours – it turned out a compressor was left running continuously, and once it was switched off the bill fell by almost a fifth.

    Pros

    • Direct connection – no current transformers up to 80 A.
    • Simplicity – no settings or programming, mounted as a standard modular device.
    • Pulse output – 800 pulse/kWh for integration into monitoring.
    • Compact – 76 x 65 x 100 mm, does not crowd other devices in the board.
    • Three-phase in one housing – instead of three single-phase meters.
    • Universal frequency – 50–60 Hz.

    Cons / limitations

    • Single tariff – day/night metering requires the 01007 or another two-tariff model.
    • IP20 – suitable only for dry, enclosed boards; outdoor use requires a board with an appropriate protection rating.
    • 80 A limit – larger supplies require a CT-operated meter.
    • No RS485 Modbus, Wi-Fi or bidirectional measurement – will not record solar export.
    • No MID approval – for billing metering, choose the MID versions 01005, 01006 or 01007.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Install only with the voltage disconnected; a main protective device no larger than 80 A is required upstream of the meter.
    • Select the conductor cross-section and terminal tightening torque according to the manufacturer's datasheet; check the terminals after the first load cycle.
    • Follow the phase and neutral connection diagram on the housing – without a neutral, a three-phase meter measures incorrectly.
    • Connect the pulse output according to the stated polarity and voltage limits – it is a low-power signal output, not a relay.
    • The meter is IP20 – install only in an enclosed board in a dry room.
    • Do not break the housing or the seal – this compromises the reliability of the metering.

    Voltage
    3×230/400 V, 50–60 Hz
    Tariffs / output
    1 tariff, pulse output 800 pulse/kWh

    Suitable when you need:
    • simple three-phase kWh metering up to 80 A without current transformers;
    • a compact meter in the board for a single user or appliance;
    • a pulse signal to a PLC or home controller.
    Check before use:
    • whether the supply current does not exceed 80 A;
    • whether the voltage is 3×230/400 V;
    • whether single-tariff metering is sufficient;
    • whether the board is dry and enclosed (IP20).
    Important reminder:
    The meter only records consumption – protection against overload, short circuit and overvoltage is provided by separate devices. The 01002 has no MID approval – for billing metering choose the MID versions THORGEON 01005, 01006 or 01007.
