4G communication module for MQ21 analyzer | Modbus TCP → 4G | RJ45 | 5 V DC / 2 A | 35 mm DIN rail | MQ21-4G
The MQ21-4G is a 4G communication module designed for the MQ21 power and power quality analyzer. It transmits analyzer data via Modbus TCP over the mobile network, connects via RJ45 and mounts in an enclosure on a 35 mm DIN rail. According to the supplier, measurements, events and waveforms are transmitted through the module.
Key point:
An MQ21 analyzer at a site without wired internet becomes remotely accessible – data travels to a server or cloud over 4G. The module mounts in the same enclosure on a DIN rail and uses only about 1.6 W. It is suitable only for the MQ21 analyzer; for other Modbus devices choose the PQ-4G.Purpose
MQ21 analyzer onlyLink
Modbus TCP → 4GSupply
5 V DC / 2 AConsumption
~1.6 WConnection and integration
- Modbus TCP – The MQ21 analyzer and the module exchange data via Modbus TCP; the module transmits it over 4G.
- RJ45 – The analyzer connects to the module with an RJ45 connector inside the enclosure.
- 4G – Data is sent over the mobile network to a server or cloud – no wired internet needed on site.
- SIM – A SIM card with a data plan is required. Check operator coverage at the enclosure location before installation.
Operating principle
The module clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail next to the MQ21, is connected to the analyzer via RJ45, a 5 V DC / 2 A supply is connected and a SIM card is inserted.
The module receives MQ21 data via Modbus TCP and transmits it over the 4G network to the configured server or cloud.
Analyzer measurements are available remotely in real time – you can monitor network parameters and events without travelling to the site.
Why choose the MQ21-4G module?
You see power quality problems – voltage dips, harmonics, overloads – as they happen, even if the site has no internet. This shortens troubleshooting time and reduces site visits.Technical specifications
Product type 4G communication module for power quality analyzer Manufacturer / model MQ21-4G Purpose MQ21 power and power quality analyzer Link Modbus TCP → 4G Connector RJ45 Supply 5 V DC / 2 A (recommended) Consumption ~1.6 W Dimensions 107 × 50 × 29 mm Mounting 35 mm DIN rail Operating temperature −20…+85 °C Storage temperature −40…+85 °C Compatibility MQ21 analyzer only Key functions
- Modbus TCP over 4G – MQ21 data without wired internet
- Remote access – analyzer measurements available from anywhere
- Measurements and events – according to the supplier, waveforms are also transmitted
- DIN mounting – in the same enclosure as the MQ21
- Low consumption – about 1.6 W
- Industrial temperature range – operation at −20…+85 °C
How does it differ from similar products?
- PQ-4G – Universal Modbus TCP / RTU → 4G module for various analyzers and meters, fixed with M4 screws; the MQ21-4G is for the MQ21 only and mounts on a DIN rail.
- 4G LTE Wi-Fi modem (USB) – Creates a Wi-Fi hotspot for smart-MAIC devices; the MQ21-4G does not create a Wi-Fi network and works only with the MQ21.
- D103 network analyzers – smart-MAIC D103 connects to the cloud via Wi-Fi; the MQ21-4G provides 4G connectivity for the MQ21 analyzer.
Where is it used?
- Distribution boards in industrial plants
- Transformer stations and substations
- Commercial buildings without IT network access
- Remote production units
- Temporary power quality measurements on site
- Pumping stations and other remote sites
Use by need
Power quality engineers.
Monitor MQ21 measurements and events remotely and identify the causes of problems faster.Electrical facility managers.
Receive MQ21 data from sites where IT network access is limited or unavailable.Measurement service providers.
Leave the MQ21 on site for several weeks and collect data over 4G without travelling.Practical use
If equipment at a plant trips periodically and a voltage dip is suspected, an MQ21 with the MQ21-4G module in the enclosure transmits measurements over 4G – you see the event remotely and can link it to the equipment fault without waiting for a site visit.Pros
- Mounts on a DIN rail next to the analyzer
- Low consumption – about 1.6 W
- No wired internet needed
- Wide operating temperature range −20…+85 °C
- Compact – 107 × 50 × 29 mm
Cons / limitations
- Suitable only for the MQ21 analyzer – choose the PQ-4G for other devices
- Requires a SIM card with a data plan and mobile coverage
- LTE bands are not specified – check compatibility with your local operator before ordering
- Intended for professional use – Modbus TCP and network configuration knowledge is needed
Safety and installation notes
- Mounted in an enclosure on a DIN rail; the 230 V side of the enclosure is wired by a qualified electrician with the power off
- Use a regulated 5 V DC / 2 A power supply
- Route communication cables separately from power cables
- Mobile signal is weaker inside a metal enclosure – check signal strength before commissioning
Quick selection guide
MQ21 onlyModbus TCP → 4GRJ45DIN 35 mmSuitable when you need:- remote access to MQ21 data without wired internet
- monitoring power quality events from the office
- mounting the communication module in the same DIN enclosure
Check before use:- that your analyzer is an MQ21
- that there is operator 4G coverage at the enclosure location
- that you have a 5 V DC / 2 A power supply and a SIM with a data plan
Important reminder: The module does not work without an MQ21 analyzer, a SIM card with a data plan and mobile coverage. It transmits data but does not measure power quality itself.FAQ
