Wind speed sensor – anemometer | 0.4…30 m/s | 12–24 V DC | RS485 Modbus RTU | for D105 pulse analyzer | smart-MAIC | T4W
The T4W is an aluminium alloy anemometer that measures wind speed from 0.4 to 30 m/s. It is designed for the smart-MAIC D105 pulse analyzer and connects to its RS485 input. Suitable for a local weather station, roof or site monitoring.
Key point:
In a D105 system, wind speed becomes data just like water or gas consumption: you see it in the cloud, receive notifications and can use it to control the D105 relay. The sensor sends a digital value via RS485 Modbus RTU, so no analog voltage conversion is needed. All you need is a separate 12–24 V DC power supply.Range

12–24 V DC (not included)Connection to D105 and integration
- RS485 input (Modbus RTU) – The sensor's A / B wires connect to the D105 RS485 terminals (A / B, terminals 11). The RS485 interface is configured for the wind sensor in the D105 Counter Config menu.
- 12–24 V DC power supply – The D105 does not provide this voltage – a separate DIN-rail or plug-in 12–24 V DC power supply is required (not included).
- Data in D105 – Wind speed is stored in parameter [T4] in metres per second; it can be charted and used in notification and relay conditions.
- Cloud, MQTT, API – Data goes to the free smart-MAIC cloud and is available via MQTT and API (60 s interval, 5 s with Extended).
How it works
The anemometer is mounted in an open location on a mast or bracket, away from turbulence caused by the building. The cable is routed to the panel: A / B wires to the D105 RS485 terminals, power wires to the 12–24 V DC supply.
The wind turns the cups, the sensor calculates the speed and provides it in a Modbus RTU register. The D105 periodically reads the value via RS485 and records it in parameter [T4].
In the cloud you see current and historical wind speed in m/s, can set a threshold for a notification or relay action, and the same data is available via MQTT and API.
Why choose the T4W?
It brings wind monitoring into the same D105 system that already counts water, gas or heat. One dashboard, one history, one set of notification rules – without separate weather station software.Technical specifications

- Wind speed measurement 0.4…30 m/s – from light breeze to storm gusts.
- Digital RS485 Modbus RTU interface – the value is transmitted directly in m/s, without voltage conversion.
- 0.1 m/s resolution – sufficient for trends and thresholds.
- History in the smart-MAIC cloud – charts and reports together with other D105 data.
- Notifications and relay control – the D105 relay can switch when a set speed is exceeded.
- MQTT and API – data can be passed to home automation, BMS or your own system.
How does it differ from similar products?
- T5W wind direction sensor – The T5W shows direction (16 directions), the T4W shows speed. Together they provide complete wind monitoring via the same D105 RS485 input.
- D105 Solar – Measures solar radiation in W/m², also via RS485 with a 12–24 V DC supply – complements a weather station but does not measure wind.
- D280 – Air temperature, humidity and pressure via the 1-Wire input, powered from the D105 – for indoor and outdoor climate, not wind.
Where is it used?
- local weather station on a farm or homestead
- greenhouse and hangar monitoring
- protecting awnings, blinds or roof windows from wind
- wind monitoring at construction sites and crane zones
- measuring wind conditions before installing a small wind turbine
- school and science project stations
Use by need
Farm or greenhouse owner.
Sees when wind exceeds the threshold and closes windows or vents in time.Construction site manager.
Receives a notification when wind reaches a speed unsafe for work at height and keeps a history for reports.Home automation enthusiast.
Sends wind speed via MQTT to their own system and automates awnings or blinds.Practical use
If greenhouse roof vents have actuators and strong wind could break them, the T4W with the D105 continuously monitors wind speed. When the set threshold is exceeded, the D105 relay, via an intermediate relay or contactor, commands the vents to close, and the owner receives a notification.Pros
- digital RS485 Modbus RTU interface – no voltage calibration needed
- wide 0.4…30 m/s range
- operating temperature from −40 °C
- aluminium alloy housing for outdoor conditions
- data in the same smart-MAIC cloud as other D105 measurements
- can control the D105 relay and send notifications
Cons / limitations
- requires a separate 12–24 V DC power supply – the D105 does not provide it
- IP45 protection rating – mount so that water does not collect around the connections
- measures speed only; direction requires the T5W sensor
- the D105 has one RS485 interface – when combining several RS485 sensors (T5W, D105 Solar, CO2), check compatibility in advance
Safety and installation notes
- Mount in an open location, at least a few metres above obstacles, so the building does not distort the airflow.
- Carry out work at height in line with safety requirements and in calm weather.
- Earth the mast and, where possible, protect the RS485 line against surges.
- Connect the power supply negative and D105 GND according to the manufacturer's diagram; do not connect 12–24 V to the D105 signal terminals.
- The D105 relay is rated for loads up to 50 W – use an intermediate relay or contactor for actuators and motors.
Quick selection guide
0.4…30 m/s±3%RS485 Modbus RTU12–24 V DCSuitable when you need:- monitor wind speed in real time
- automatically protect equipment from strong wind
- keep wind history together with other D105 data
Check before use:- that you have a 12–24 V DC power supply
- that the D105 RS485 input is not used by another device
- that the mounting location is open and accessible for maintenance
Important reminder: The T4W does not work without the D105 and a separate 12–24 V DC supply. It does not replace a certified meteorological station where official measurements are required.FAQ
Which D105 input does the T4W connect to?
To the RS485 input (A / B terminals), with the wind sensor mode selected in the D105 settings.Does the D105 power the anemometer?
No, a separate 12–24 V DC power supply is required and is not included. Can it be used together with the T5W wind direction sensor?
Yes, the manufacturer's guide covers connecting both sensors to the D105; speed is stored in [T4], direction in [T5].In what units is wind speed shown?
In metres per second (m/s), with 0.1 m/s resolution. Can equipment be controlled based on wind?
Yes, the D105 relay (up to 50 W) can switch at a set wind speed threshold; use a contactor for larger loads. Can the sensor be connected directly to a D103 energy monitor?
No, sensors connect to the D105, not to the D101 / D103.T4W wind speed sensor for the smart-MAIC D105 analyzer
The T4W anemometer measures wind speed from 0.4 to 30 m/s and transmits it to the smart-MAIC D105 via RS485 Modbus RTU. Suitable for weather stations, greenhouses and protecting equipment from wind.
