  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) sensor | 0…5000 ppm | ±50 ppm | RS485 | for D105 pulse analyzer | smart-MAIC | CO2-5000

The CO2-5000 is a carbon dioxide concentration sensor with an RS485 interface, designed for the smart-MAIC D105 pulse analyzer. It measures the CO2 content of the air in parts per million (ppm) and sends the value digitally via the Modbus RTU protocol.

    Key point:
CO2 concentration is a direct indicator of whether ventilation is sufficient: when many people are present and air exchange is too low, ppm rises and concentration and productivity drop. With the CO2-5000 the D105 shows the real situation and can switch on ventilation itself via its relay. The sensor connects to RS485, so the 1-Wire input remains free for DHT22 temperature and humidity.
    Range

    Connection to D105 and integration

    • RS485 input (terminals 11) – The sensor A and B wires connect to the D105 RS485 terminals (A – upper, B – lower), communication at 9600 bps. In the D105 RS485 settings select the “CO2 Sensor” mode.
    • 5 V power – VCC – D105 terminal 6 (+5 V), GND – terminal 1. Current below 60 mA, peak 150 mA. No separate power supply is needed.
    • Data and automation – The CO2 value is sent to the smart-MAIC cloud, API and MQTT. Notifications and D105 relay control can be set by a ppm threshold.

    How it works

The sensor is mounted indoors at breathing-zone height, away from windows, doors and direct ventilation airflow. Four wires (VCC, GND, A, B) are routed to the D105.

After power-up the sensor needs about 3 min to warm up; it then continuously measures CO2 concentration and sends it to the D105 via RS485 Modbus RTU.

In the cloud you see the CO2 curve and history and can set, for example, a 1000 ppm threshold for a notification or for switching on the D105 relay that starts a fan or a higher ventilation unit speed.

    Why choose the CO2-5000?
It turns the D105 into an air quality monitor with automation: one device measures CO2, can control ventilation and counts meter pulses at the same time. Together with the DHT22 you get the complete indoor climate picture.

    Key functions

    • CO2 measurement 0…5000 ppm – from outdoor air level to poorly ventilated rooms.
    • Digital RS485 communication – noise-resistant, no analog conversion.
    • Relay control by ppm – a fan or ventilation unit switches on automatically.
    • Notifications – you know when a room needs airing.
    • History in the cloud – you see when and where the air is worst.
    • Compatible with DHT22 – the 1-Wire input stays free for temperature and humidity.

How does it differ from similar products?

    • DHT22 – Measures temperature and humidity via 1-Wire; it does not compete with the CO2-5000 for an input, so they are often used together.
    • T4W / T5W – Also connect to RS485, but the D105 has one RS485 mode – CO2 sensor or wind sensors, not both.
    • D280 – Measures temperature, humidity and pressure, but not air quality; it does not show CO2 levels.

    Where is it used?

    • Offices and open-plan workspaces
    • School classrooms and lecture halls
    • Meeting and conference rooms
    • Greenhouses where CO2 levels are monitored
    • Mushroom growing rooms
    • Livestock and poultry housing
    • Gyms and wellness centres

    Use by need

For school or office facility managers.
You see which rooms have poor air and can plan airing or ventilation repairs based on data.
For greenhouse or mushroom farm owners.
CO2 levels in real time and in history – easier to maintain the right growing conditions.
    For ventilation installers.
Objective ppm data before and after installing a ventilation unit – proof for the client that the system works.

    Practical use

If people complain about stuffiness after an hour-long meeting in a conference room, connect the CO2-5000 to the D105 and the D105 relay to the extract fan control. Then set a condition to switch on the fan when CO2 exceeds, for example, 1000 ppm, and you will see in the history how the concentration falls.

    Pros

    • Wide range 0…5000 ppm, accuracy ±50 ppm
    • Digital RS485 Modbus RTU interface
    • 5 V power from the D105, no extra unit
    • Relay control by CO2 concentration
    • Can work together with the DHT22 (different inputs)

    Cons / limitations

    • The D105 has one RS485 mode: with the CO2 sensor connected, T4W / T5W wind sensors or Modbus Server mode cannot be used.
    • After power-up, about 3 min of warm-up is needed before readings stabilise.
    • Operating temperature 0…+50 °C – unsuitable outdoors in winter or in cold rooms.
    • Upper limit 5000 ppm – unsuitable for higher concentrations (e.g. fermentation rooms).
    • Not a certified gas hazard detector.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Connect the sensor only with the D105 power switched off.
    • Do not swap the A and B wires – communication will not work if reversed.
    • Mount away from direct breathing, windows and ventilation airflow – readings will be distorted.
    • Protect from condensation and humidity above 90 % RH.
    • Run the RS485 line with twisted-pair cable, away from power cables.

    ±50 ppm
    RS485 Modbus RTU
    5 V, from the D105
    Suitable when you need:
    • indoor air quality (CO2) monitoring
    • ventilation control by ppm
    • CO2 together with temperature and humidity on one D105
    Check before use:
    • that the D105 RS485 is not used for wind sensors or Modbus Server mode
    • that the room temperature is within 0…+50 °C
    • that the expected concentration does not exceed 5000 ppm
Important reminder: The CO2-5000 works only with the D105 (not with D101 or D103) and is intended for air quality monitoring – it does not replace a certified gas leak or life-safety detector.
