  • 4in1 soil sensor | temperature, moisture, EC, pH | RS485 Modbus RTU | 5–24 V DC | for D105 pulse analyzer | smart-MAIC | 4in1

    Code: 4in1

One sensor for measuring soil temperature, moisture, electrical conductivity (EC) and pH. It connects to the RS485 input of the smart-MAIC D105 via Modbus RTU (a D105 Extended license is required). 5–24 V DC supply is not included.

  • 4in1 soil sensor | temperature, moisture, EC, pH | RS485 Modbus RTU | 5–24 V DC | for D105 pulse analyzer | smart-MAIC | 4in1

The 4in1 soil sensor measures four parameters at once: temperature, moisture, electrical conductivity (EC) and pH. It is inserted into the soil and connected to the RS485 input of the smart-MAIC D105 pulse analyzer via Modbus RTU. Designed for greenhouses, vegetable gardens, orchards and trial fields.

    Key point:
Instead of four separate instruments you get one probe and one cable to the enclosure. Irrigation and fertilizing can follow actual soil moisture and EC rather than a schedule. Important: the sensor needs a separate 5–24 V DC supply, and the D105 needs an Extended license for Modbus mode.

    Connection to D105 and integration

    • RS485 input (Modbus RTU) – The sensor A / B wires connect to the D105 RS485 terminals. The D105 RS485 is set to Modbus mode and periodically reads the sensor registers.
    • Extended license – The manufacturer requires an Extended license for the D105 to operate in Modbus mode – it must be purchased for the D105 unit.
    • 5–24 V DC supply – The sensor is powered from a separate 5–24 V DC source (not included); connect the supply minus to the D105 GND.
    • Cloud, MQTT, API – All four parameters appear in the smart-MAIC dashboard as separate values, are sent via MQTT / API and can control the D105 relay.

    Operating principle

The probe is inserted into the soil at the required root depth, and the cable is run to the enclosure with the D105. The RS485 A / B wires and the power wires from the 5–24 V DC source are connected.

The sensor uses a capacitive principle (not electrolysis), so according to the manufacturer its accuracy does not drift over time and depends little on soil composition. The D105 reads the four values with Modbus RTU requests.

In the dashboard you see soil temperature, moisture, EC and pH with their history, and can set limits for notifications or irrigation control via the D105 relay.

Why choose the 4in1 soil sensor?
Irrigation and fertilizing decisions are based on data: you see when the soil actually dries out and how fertilizer concentration (EC) changes. One probe replaces four measurements and uses only one D105 input.

    Key functions

    • 4 parameters in one probe – temperature, moisture, EC and pH
    • RS485 Modbus RTU – digital signal that tolerates longer cable runs
    • Capacitive measurement – no electrolysis, accuracy does not drift over time
    • Irrigation logic – the D105 relay can open an irrigation valve at a moisture limit
    • Fertilizer control – EC shows fertilizer concentration in the soil
    • History in the cloud – season data, MQTT and API integration

How does it differ from similar products?

    • pH Level – Submersible pH probe for water via the analog input (pH 0…14); the 4in1 measures pH in soil (pH 3…9) plus three more parameters.
    • D280 – Air temperature, humidity and pressure via the 1-Wire input – complements the 4in1 by showing greenhouse microclimate rather than soil condition.
    • D105 Solar – The solar radiation sensor also connects via RS485 – do not combine it with the 4in1 on one D105 RS485 input without checking first.

    Where is it used?

    • Greenhouses and vegetable growing
    • Orchards and berry plantations
    • Trial fields and agronomic research
    • Lawns and sports fields
    • Urban green areas and green roofs
    • Training and STEM projects

    Use by need

    Greenhouse owners.
Irrigate according to actual soil moisture and see when fertilizer concentration (EC) is too high.
    Agronomists and consultants.
Collect season data from several fields and compare it without daily on-site measurements.
Green area and sports field caretakers.
Automate irrigation by moisture limit and save water.

    Practical use

If a greenhouse is watered on a timer every morning, with the 4in1 sensor and a D105 the relay opens the irrigation valve only when soil moisture drops below your set limit – water is used only when it is really needed.

    Pros

    • Four parameters in one probe and one input
    • Wide EC range up to 20000 µS/cm
    • Capacitive principle – no electrolysis
    • Digital RS485 interface
    • Wide supply voltage range 5–24 V DC

    Cons / limitations

    • Requires a separate 5–24 V DC power supply (not included)
    • The D105 needs an Extended license for Modbus mode
    • Occupies the only D105 RS485 input – CO2-5000, T4W / T5W wind or D105 Solar sensors will need another D105
    • pH range only 3…9 – use the pH Level sensor for water solutions

    Safety and installation notes

    • The D105 is mounted in an enclosure on a DIN rail; the 230 V side is wired by a qualified electrician with the power off
    • Choose a 5–24 V DC power supply with short-circuit protection and mount it in the enclosure
    • Run the outdoor cable in a protective conduit, away from mechanical damage and field machinery
    • Insert the probe into hard soil carefully without forcing it – prepare a hole first

    FAQ

Which D105 input does it connect to?
To the RS485 input, with the D105 set to Modbus mode.
Does it need a separate power supply?
Yes, the sensor needs a 5–24 V DC source, which is not included.
Why is an Extended license needed?
The manufacturer requires it for the D105 to work in Modbus mode, which is used to read this sensor.
At what depth should it be installed?
In the main root zone of the plants – choose the depth according to the crop.
Can it be combined with a CO2 or wind sensor?
Not on one D105 – they all use the same RS485 input.
Is it suitable for measuring water pH?
No, it is designed for soil; use the pH Level sensor for water.
