Wall-mounted twilight switch with built-in light sensor: threshold 3–200 lx, lighting time 1–9 h or dusk to dawn, load up to 1500 W, IP44.

  • Wall-mounted twilight switch with timer | 3–200 lx | 1500 W | IP44 | GTV CZ-2

GTV CZ-2 is a twilight switch mounted directly on the wall that switches the lighting on at dusk by itself. The light sensor is built into the housing, so you need neither panel space nor a separate sensor cable. It also has a timer: lighting can stay on for a set number of hours or all night until dawn.

    5 yrs
    Manufacturer warranty – 5 years
GTV provides a 5-year warranty for the CZ-2 twilight switch.
    Key point:
A simple twilight switch keeps the yard light on all night. CZ-2 lets you decide: when lighting is only needed in the evening, set e.g. 4 h, and after midnight the luminaires no longer burn for nothing.
    Sensitivity
    3–200 lx
    Timer
    1–9 h or until dawn
    Load
    up to 1500 W, 6 A
    Supply
    220–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz
    Housing
    wall-mounted, IP44

    Operating principle

The built-in sensor measures ambient light. When the light level falls below the threshold set with the “LUX” knob, the relay switches on the connected lighting.

With the time knob you set how many hours the lighting stays on after switching on – from 1 to 9 h. After the set time the relay switches the lighting off until the next evening. In the “dusk to dawn” position the lighting stays on until it gets light.

The relay is connected with three wires: phase, neutral and output to the luminaire. This allows it to be installed in an existing outdoor lighting line ahead of a luminaire or a group of luminaires.

    When is the timer useful?
Driveway, sign or decorative lighting is often needed only in the evening while people are still about. Setting 3–5 h cuts energy costs and light pollution, while the main yard lighting can remain in dusk-to-dawn mode.

    Main functions

    • Automatic switching on at dusk – lighting comes on only when it is dark.
    • Timer 1–9 h – lighting switches off after the set time, no separate time relay needed.
    • Until-dawn mode – when light is needed all night.
    • Adjustable threshold 3–200 lx – you adapt the switching point to the site.
    • Built-in sensor – no panel space and no separate sensor cable needed.
    • IP44 housing – mounted outdoors on a wall, preferably under a canopy.

How does it differ from similar models?

    • WYL-CR-M2-SZ-01 – Wall-mounted relay of the same design: threshold 3–500 lx, timer 1–8 h, load up to 1200 W, grey housing.
    • F&F AWZ – Wall-mounted with built-in sensor, 2–1000 lx and 16 A, IP65 housing – for more exposed locations, but without a timer.
    • GTV CZ-1 – Modular relay for the panel with an external IP65 sensor, 2–100 lx – when the relay must be in the panel and only the sensor outdoors.
    • Night-Matic 3000 – Wall-mounted twilight switch with an energy-saving mode – an alternative when lighting needs to be reduced during the night.

    Where is it used?

    • Yard, path and driveway lighting
    • Facade, terrace and garden luminaires
    • Sign and advertising lighting in the evening
    • Outdoor luminaires of garages, farm buildings and warehouses
    • Upgrading lighting at private houses and homesteads without panel work

    Use by need

    For the electrician.
Mounted on the wall next to the luminaire, 3 wires to connect – no panel space and no sensor cable needed.
    For the homeowner.
The yard is lit every evening, and the timer switches the light off when it is no longer needed.
    For a shop or company.
The sign or entrance is lit in the evening for a set time, without manual switching or timer adjustment.

    Practical use

If the yard floodlight is switched by a manual switch and often stays on until morning, mount CZ-2 on the north wall under a canopy and connect it into the line ahead of the floodlight. Set the “LUX” knob to about 10 lx and the timer to 5 h. At dusk the lighting comes on by itself and goes off around midnight, with nothing to readjust in winter or summer.

    Pros

    • Timer 1–9 h or until-dawn mode
    • Built-in sensor – no panel and no sensor cable
    • Load up to 1500 W
    • Adjustable threshold 3–200 lx
    • Simple 3-wire connection
    • 5-year manufacturer warranty

    Cons / limitations

    • IP44 – for places not reached by direct rain or water jets; in exposed locations choose F&F AWZ (IP65)
    • The manufacturer does not state a separate LED rating – for larger LED groups and floodlights with high inrush current use a contactor
    • Range only up to 200 lx – not suitable for control by brighter daylight
    • No manual ON / OFF mode

    ⚠ Safety and installation notes

    • Mount the relay so that the sensor sees daylight but is not reached by the light of the controlled luminaires – otherwise the lighting will cycle.
    • Do not point the sensor towards the street where car headlights hit it.
    • The best place is under a canopy or eaves; the cable entry must be from below so that water does not run into the housing.
    • With a large LED load or high inrush current, the relay must control a contactor coil, not the luminaire group directly.
    • Protect the line with a suitable circuit breaker.
    • Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician after disconnecting and verifying the absence of voltage.

    Quick selection guide

    3–200 lx
    1–9 h / until dawn
    up to 1500 W
    IP44, wall-mounted
    Suitable when you need to:
    • switch on yard or facade lighting automatically at dusk;
    • switch lighting off after a few hours without a separate timer;
    • install control right at the luminaire, without panel work.
    Check before use:
    • load power and type (LED groups – via a contactor);
    • whether the mounting location is protected from direct rain (IP44);
    • that the light of the controlled luminaires will not reach the sensor.
Important reminder: a twilight switch controls lighting but does not replace protective devices; the lighting circuit must be protected by a circuit breaker.

    FAQ

    How does the timer work?
The lighting comes on at dusk and stays on for the set time – from 1 to 9 h. In the “until dawn” position it stays on until it gets light.
What threshold should be set for yard lighting?
Usually 5–20 lx is enough; if the lighting comes on too early, turn the knob towards a lower value.
    Can LED luminaires be connected?
Yes, the manufacturer states that the relay is suitable for LED. For larger LED groups use a contactor because of the inrush current.
Why does the lighting switch on and off?
Most often the sensor is lit by the controlled luminaire itself. Move the relay or aim the luminaire elsewhere.
Can it be mounted in an exposed location?
The housing is IP44 – it is best mounted under a canopy. For exposed locations choose an IP65 relay.
    What is the warranty?
The manufacturer GTV provides a 5-year warranty.
