  • Remote Wi-Fi antenna | 2 dB | 3 m cable | magnetic base | D105-12 and D103 | smart-MAIC

    Code: WiFi antena

Remote Wi-Fi antenna with a 3 m cable and magnetic base that lets you take the antenna out of a metal cabinet and improve reception. Compatible with the D105-12 and D103 energy analysers (D103-2 – EA version only). Not suitable for the D105-10 with its built-in antenna.

  • Remote Wi-Fi antenna | 2 dB | 3 m cable | magnetic base | D105-12 and D103 | smart-MAIC

A remote Wi-Fi antenna for smart-MAIC devices with an external antenna – the D105-12 pulse analyser and the D103 energy analysers. The 3 m cable lets you take the antenna out of a metal cabinet, and the magnetic base makes it quick to fix onto the cabinet housing.

    Key point:
A metal cabinet acts as a shield and attenuates the Wi-Fi signal, so a device inside often connects unreliably. An antenna placed outside the cabinet usually solves this without a repeater or a network cable. It is the simplest first step when the signal in the cabinet is weak.

    Connection and compatibility

    • D105-12 – Pulse analyser with an external antenna – the remote antenna connects to the device's antenna connector.
    • D103-300A, D103-600A, D103-R10, D103-R20 – Energy analysers with current transformers (300 A, 600 A, 1000 A, 2000 A) – listed as compatible by the manufacturer.
    • D103-2 – Only the version with an external antenna (D103-2EA). Before ordering, check that your device has an antenna connector.
    • Not compatible – D105-10, D101 and other devices with a built-in antenna – they have no antenna connector.
    • Wi-Fi network – The antenna does not create a network – it only improves the device's link to an existing 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network or the 4G LTE Wi-Fi USB modem.

    How it works

Installation: the antenna cable is connected to the device's antenna connector and led out of the cabinet through a cable gland. The antenna is fixed to the top or side of the cabinet with its magnetic base.

Operation: the antenna moves the reception point outside the metal housing, where the Wi-Fi signal is not shielded. The 2 dB gain is modest, so what matters is a good antenna position rather than power.

Result: a more stable link between the device and the router, fewer disconnections and fewer data gaps in the smart-MAIC cloud.

Why use the remote Wi-Fi antenna?
It lets you leave the D105-12 or D103 where it belongs – in a metal cabinet next to the meters or current transformers – and still have a Wi-Fi link. No need to move the device or run a network cable.

    Product type Remote Wi-Fi antenna
Manufacturer / model smart-MAIC / Remote WiFi Antenna
    Gain 2 dB
    Cable length 3 m
    Mounting magnetic base
Wi-Fi band 2.4 GHz (Wi-Fi of compatible devices)
    Compatibility D105-12, D103-2EA, D103-300A, D103-600A, D103-R10, D103-R20
    Not compatible D105-10, D101 (built-in antenna)

    Key functions

    • 3 m cable – the antenna can be taken out of a metal cabinet or recess
    • Magnetic base – fixing to a steel surface without drilling
    • 2 dB gain – a compact antenna that does not get in the way
    • Compatible with D105-12 and D103 – one accessory for pulse and energy analysers
    • Quick installation – connect, lead out the cable, fix in place

How does it differ from similar products?

    • D105-10 – Has a built-in antenna – no remote antenna can be connected; for a metal cabinet choose the D105-12.
    • 4G LTE Wi-Fi USB modem – Creates a Wi-Fi network over mobile data when there is no internet on site; the antenna only improves the link to an existing network.
    • PQ-4G – An industrial Modbus → 4G module with its own external antenna; intended for Modbus devices via RJ45, not for improving Wi-Fi reception.

    Where is it used?

    • Metal incoming-supply cabinets with D103 energy analysers
    • Basement cabinets with the D105-12 for water and heat metering
    • Boiler rooms and pump stations
    • Industrial distribution cabinets
    • Metal containers and modular buildings
    • Cabinets in recesses or behind thick walls

    Use by need

For the electrician installing a D103.
When it turns out there is no signal with the cabinet closed, the problem is solved in a few minutes without moving the device.
    For the facility manager.
Data from plant rooms arrives without interruptions, so reports have no empty hours.
    For the designer.
Antennas for metal cabinets can be specified in advance, avoiding connectivity problems at commissioning.

    Practical use

If a D103 energy analyser is installed in a metal incoming-supply cabinet and has a signal with the door open but loses it when the door is closed, the remote antenna is led out through the cabinet's cable gland and fixed on top with its magnet. The device stays where it is, and the link to the router usually becomes stable.

    Pros

    • A simple way to improve the link in a metal cabinet
    • The 3 m cable is enough to lead the antenna out of the cabinet
    • Magnetic base – no drilling
    • Suits both the D105-12 and the D103 energy analysers
    • No power supply or extra wiring needed

    Cons / limitations

    • Not suitable for the D105-10 and other devices with a built-in antenna
    • 2 dB is a modest gain; if there is no Wi-Fi signal even outside the cabinet, a repeater or the 4G LTE Wi-Fi USB modem is needed
    • The magnet holds only on steel – plastic or aluminium surfaces need another fixing method
    • Fixed cable length of 3 m; extending it increases signal loss

    Safety and installation notes

    • Work in the cabinet with the power off or in line with live-working rules
    • Route the cable through a gland or grommet so that the cabinet's IP protection is not compromised
    • Do not pinch the cable in the cabinet door or bend it sharply
    • Keep the antenna away from power cables and contactors
    • Moisture resistance is not specified – outdoors, mount it under a cover

    Quick selection guide

    2 dB
    3 m cable
    Magnetic base
    D105-12 / D103
    Suitable when you need:
    • to improve the Wi-Fi link in a metal cabinet
    • to keep the D105-12 or D103 in its installed position
    • quick installation without drilling
    Check before use:
    • that the device has an external antenna connector (D105-12, D103 EA versions)
    • the Wi-Fi signal at the intended antenna position
    • that the cabinet has a free cable entry
Important reminder: The antenna does not provide an internet connection and does not replace a router – it only improves the link to an existing Wi-Fi network. The D105-10 is not compatible with it.

    FAQ

Does the antenna fit the D105-10?
No, the D105-10 has a built-in antenna – an external antenna requires the D105-12.
    Which D103 models are compatible?
D103-300A, D103-600A, D103-R10, D103-R20 and the D103-2 version with an external antenna (EA).
    Does the antenna need power?
No, no additional power supply is required.
Where is the best place to mount the antenna?
Outside the metal cabinet – on top or on the side, facing the router.
What if there is still no signal with the antenna?
Install a Wi-Fi repeater or use the 4G LTE Wi-Fi USB modem with a SIM card.
    Can the cable be extended?
The manufacturer supplies a 3 m cable; extending it increases losses, so it is better to reposition the router or repeater.
