TDS (dissolved solids) sensor | 0…1000 ppm | 0…2.3 V | 5 V DC | analog input | for D105 pulse analyzer | smart-MAIC | TDS Level
The TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) sensor measures the concentration of dissolved salts in water in ppm and helps assess water hardness. It connects to the analog input of the smart-MAIC D105 pulse analyzer and is powered from its 5 V terminal. It is most often installed after water filters or reverse osmosis systems.
Key point:
Filter cartridges are replaced when the TDS value actually starts rising, not by the calendar. The sensor connects to the D105 with three wires, and together with a 1-Wire temperature sensor the reading is compensated for water temperature. Data, notifications and relay logic are all in the same smart-MAIC dashboard.Range

5 V DC from D105Connection to D105 and integration
- Analog input (ADC, terminal 5) – The signal wire (yellow / green) goes to the D105 analog input. The 0…2.3 V DC output is well below the 18 V DC limit.
- Power (terminals 6 and 1) – Red wire to D105 +5 V (terminal 6), black wire to GND (terminal 1). No separate power source is required.
- Temperature compensation – The manufacturer's formula uses the value of a D105 1-Wire temperature sensor (T1…T5); without one, use the nearest available temperature.
- Cloud, MQTT, API – The TDS value (mg/l) is calculated as an arithmetic operation in the dashboard; it can be sent via MQTT / API and used for notifications or relay control.
Operating principle
The probe is screwed into the pipe via a tee (e.g. DN20 – G1/4" – DN20 with an OSMOS / G1/4" adapter), and the signal board is placed in a dry spot. Three wires connect to D105 terminals 1, 5 and 6.
The probe measures the electrical conductivity of the water, which rises with the amount of dissolved salts; the board converts it into a 0…2.3 V voltage measured by the D105.
In the dashboard you see the TDS value and its trend over time and set a limit (Vout = TDS × 0.0023) for a notification or the relay; the same data is available via MQTT and API.
Why choose the TDS Level sensor?
You see the condition of filters and osmosis systems in numbers instead of guessing. When TDS after the filter starts rising, you get a notification and replace the cartridge on time – not too early and not too late.Technical specifications

- Continuous TDS measurement – dissolved salts in ppm in real time
- Temperature compensation – together with a D105 1-Wire temperature sensor
- Powered by the D105 – no separate 5 V power supply needed
- Filter monitoring – you see when a filter cartridge stops doing its job
- Notifications and relay – limits by voltage Vout = TDS × 0.0023
- History and integration – charts in the cloud, MQTT and API
How does it differ from similar products?
- pH Level – Measures acidity, not salt content. It uses the same analog input, so one D105 takes either TDS or pH.
- DS18b20 – Temperature sensor for the 1-Wire input; the TDS sensor needs it for temperature compensation.
- DN15 flow sensor – Measures the volume of water passed via a pulse input – together with TDS it shows how much water the filter has already treated.
Where is it used?
- Reverse osmosis systems in homes and offices
- Drinking water filters
- Aquariums and aquaculture
- Hydroponic nutrient solution tanks
- Water softening units
- Water preparation for coffee machines and steam generators

Track customer systems remotely and plan visits based on real data.Practical use
If RO filter cartridges are replaced "every six months", the TDS Level sensor after the filter shows the real condition: with a limit set at, for example, 50 ppm (Vout ≈ 0.12 V), you are notified only when the filter actually starts letting salts through.Pros
- Connects without a separate power supply
- Simple three-wire connection to the D105
- Temperature compensation with a D105 1-Wire sensor
- Simple limit formula for notifications and the relay
- Data in the cloud, via MQTT and API
Cons / limitations
- Occupies the only D105 analog input – pH, G1/4 pressure or mH2O level sensors cannot be connected at the same time
- Range up to 1000 ppm and ±10 % accuracy – a monitoring measurement, not a laboratory one
- Operating temperature 0…+50 °C – not suitable for hot water
- TDS does not show which salts or contaminants are present – it does not replace bacteriological or chemical analysis
Safety and installation notes
- The D105 is mounted in an enclosure on a DIN rail; the 230 V side is wired by a qualified electrician with the power off
- Shut off the water and release the pressure before fitting the probe into the pipe
- Keep the signal board and terminals dry
- Route signal wires separately from power cables
Quick selection guide
0…1000 ppm±10 %0…2.3 V DCAnalog inputSuitable when you need:- monitoring of filter and RO system condition
- notifications about changes in water quality
- TDS data together with water consumption
Check before use:- that the D105 analog input is free
- that the water temperature is within 0…+50 °C
- that you have a 1-Wire temperature sensor for compensation
Important reminder: The sensor works only with the smart-MAIC D105 pulse analyzer (sold separately). The TDS value shows the amount of dissolved salts but does not replace a laboratory drinking water analysis.FAQ
Does it need a separate power supply?
No – the sensor is powered from the D105 +5 V terminal.Which D105 input does it connect to?
To the analog input (ADC, terminal 5).Is a temperature sensor required?
Recommended – the manufacturer's formula compensates the reading using the D105 1-Wire sensor temperature. How is it installed in a pipe?
Via a tee with a G1/4" connection, e.g. DN20 – G1/4" – DN20 with an OSMOS adapter.Can a pH sensor be connected as well?
Not to the same D105 – both use the single analog input. Is it suitable for hot water?
No, the operating temperature is 0…+50 °C.TDS sensor for D105 analyzer – smart-MAIC TDS Level
TDS sensor (0…1000 ppm, ±10 %, 0…2.3 V DC output) for monitoring dissolved salts and filter condition. It connects to the smart-MAIC D105 analog input and is powered with 5 V from it.
