  • Temperature sensor | −55…+125 °C | 1 m cable | 1-Wire | for D105 pulse analyzer | smart-MAIC | DS18b20

The DS18b20 is a digital temperature sensor in a waterproof stainless steel sleeve with a 1 m cable. It is designed for the smart-MAIC D105 pulse analyzer: it connects to the 1-Wire input and sends temperature as a digital signal, so the reading does not depend on cable resistance.

    Key point:
One D105 1-Wire input accepts up to 5 of these sensors, each with its own unique address and a separate channel T1–T5. It is the simplest way to monitor several temperature points with one device – for example boiler flow and return, a hot water tank and a room. No separate power supply is needed – the sensor is powered from the D105.
    Range
    −55…+125 °C
    Accuracy
    ±0.5 °C (−10…+85 °C)
    Per input
    up to 5 pcs
    Cable
    1 m

    Connection to D105 and integration

    • 1-Wire input (terminal 4) – The data wire (yellow or blue) connects to D105 terminal 4 “Data 1-Wire”. Up to 5 sensors on one line, all connected in parallel as a bus.
    • Power (terminals 6 and 1) – Red wire – terminal 6 (+5 V from the D105), black or white – terminal 1 (GND). No separate power supply is needed.
    • Configuration and data – In the D105 “Counter config” settings select “DS18x20 Temperature”; the sensors are detected and assigned to channels T1–T5 with custom names. Data goes to the smart-MAIC cloud, API and MQTT.

    How it works

The sensor sleeve is fixed at the measuring point – on a pipe, in a thermowell, indoors or outdoors – and the cable is routed to the D105 in the panel. With several sensors, connect them one by one with the power off, all using the same (3-wire) scheme.

The DS18b20 converts temperature into a digital value itself and sends it over the 1-Wire line. The D105 recognises each sensor by its unique address, so readings never get mixed up.

In the cloud you see the temperature curve and history of each point, and you can set notifications or D105 relay control by threshold. The same values are available via API and MQTT for your BMS or Home Assistant.

    Why choose the DS18b20?
It is the cheapest and simplest way to add temperature measurement to an installed D105: no separate power supply, no calibration and up to five points on one input. The waterproof sleeve lets you measure both water and outdoor air.

    Key functions

    • Digital signal – cable length and resistance do not distort the reading.
    • Up to 5 points per input – several zones without an extra device.
    • Unique sensor address – each channel T1–T5 is named separately.
    • Waterproof sleeve – suitable for pipes, tanks and outdoor air.
    • Powered from the D105 – no separate power supply needed.
    • Thresholds and notifications – the D105 relay can switch equipment by temperature.

How does it differ from similar products?

    • DHT22 – Also measures humidity, but only from −40 °C, has no waterproof housing and occupies the whole 1-Wire input (1 pc).
    • D280 – Adds humidity and atmospheric pressure, but only one can be connected per input; DS18b20 – up to 5.
    • DR-20 – Also uses the 1-Wire input, but measures radiation background; temperature is only an additional parameter.

    Where is it used?

    • Boiler room flow and return temperature
    • Hot water tanks and buffer tanks
    • Refrigerators, freezers and cold rooms
    • Outdoor air temperature at a building
    • Greenhouses and farm buildings
    • Electrical panel and server room temperature
    • Heat pump systems

    Use by need

    For heating system installers.
One D105 monitors up to 5 points – flow, return, tank, room and outdoors – so you can see whether the system is balanced.
    For food retail and warehouses.
Cooling equipment temperature is logged in history, and you get a notification when the limit is exceeded.
    For home automation enthusiasts.
An inexpensive, simple temperature point with MQTT – no soldering iron and no separate power supply.

    Practical use

If you want to check whether a heat pump works efficiently, connect three DS18b20 sensors to the D105: on the flow and return pipes and outdoors. Then you will see the temperature difference in real time in the cloud, and together with a heat or electricity meter connected to a D105 pulse input – the consumption as well.

    Pros

    • Up to 5 sensors on one D105 input
    • Digital signal – no calibration needed
    • Waterproof stainless steel sleeve
    • Wide range −55…+125 °C
    • Powered from the D105, no extra unit
    • Simple configuration in the D105 settings

    Cons / limitations

    • Measures temperature only – for humidity you need DHT22 or D280.
    • The 1-Wire input is shared: when DS18b20 sensors are connected, the same input cannot be used for DHT22, D280 or DR-20.
    • Recommended line length is up to 5 m; longer lines need good-quality wire and bus wiring.
    • The cable is 1 m – longer distances require extension.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Connect sensors only with the D105 power switched off.
    • Use copper conductors and soldered or high-quality connections when joining wires.
    • Connect several sensors as a bus (one after another), not as a star.
    • Route the signal cable away from power cables and frequency converters.
    • All sensors on one line must use the same scheme (3-wire or 2-wire).

    Quick selection guide

    −55…+125 °C
    ±0.5 °C
up to 5 pcs / input
    1-Wire, 1 m
    Suitable when you need:
    • several temperature points with one D105
    • water or pipe temperature measurement
    • temperature threshold notifications or relay control
    Check before use:
    • that the D105 1-Wire input is not used by DHT22, D280 or DR-20
    • the total line length to the farthest sensor
    • that all sensors use the same wiring scheme
Important reminder: The DS18b20 works only with the D105 (not directly with D101 or D103 energy analyzers) and does not measure humidity. A reading of −80 means lost communication with the sensor, not an actual temperature.
