  • Water flow sensor | up to 30 l/min | ~450 pulses/l | G1/2" (DN15) | 5 V DC | pulse input | for D105 pulse analyzer | smart-MAIC | DN15(G1/2")

    Code: DN15(G1/2")

A turbine water flow sensor with G1/2" (DN15) connections for flows up to 30 l/min. It connects to a pulse input of the smart-MAIC D105 and gives about 450 pulses per litre. No separate supply is needed – the D105 provides 5 V.

  • Water flow sensor | up to 30 l/min | ~450 pulses/l | G1/2" (DN15) | 5 V DC | pulse input | for D105 pulse analyzer | smart-MAIC | DN15(G1/2")

The DN15 (G1/2") is a water flow sensor installed directly in the pipework that generates pulses according to the volume of water passing through. It connects to a pulse input of the smart-MAIC D105 pulse analyzer. Suitable where there is no water meter with a pulse output but flow needs to be monitored.

    Key point:
The sensor shows how much water flows in a specific line and when: irrigation, hot water or a process circuit. The D105 counts the pulses and converts them into litres, so you see both instantaneous flow and total volume. The D105 itself provides the 5 V supply – no additional source is needed.

    Connection to D105 and integration

    • Pulse input – The signal (yellow) wire connects to D105 terminal 2 (Ch1) or 3 (Ch2). The D105 has two pulse inputs – two flow sensors can be connected.
    • Power from D105 – Red wire to terminal 6 (+5 V), black wire to terminal 1 (GND). For three-wire electronic sensors the manufacturer recommends a diode (e.g. 1N4148) on the pulse input.
    • D105 settings – "Pulse counter" mode; pulse value ≈ 1/450 l. At 30 l/min the sensor gives about 225 pulses/s, so check that the debounce filter (10 ms by default) does not suppress pulses.
    • Cloud, MQTT, API – Pulses are stored in [Ch1] / [Ch2] and [TCh1] / [TCh2]; on the dashboard a formula converts them into litres or m³.

    How it works

The sensor is installed in a DN15 pipe using the G1/2" connections, following the flow direction arrow. Wires: black to D105 terminal 1, red to 6 (+5 V), yellow to 2 or 3.

Flowing water turns a turbine and the sensor sends a pulse for each revolution – about 450 pulses per litre. The D105 counts pulses per interval and in total.

On the dashboard pulses are converted into litres or m³ – you see consumption per hour, day or month and get a notification if water flows when it should not.

Why choose the DN15 flow sensor?
It adds a water metering point where there is no meter or the meter has no pulse output. Together with the D105 you get flow charts, leak indications and relay control – for a few wires and one connection.

    Key functions

    • Flow measurement up to 30 l/min – for household, homestead or process line water.
    • Pulse output ~450 pulses/l – high resolution for recording small volumes.
    • Powered from the D105 – no additional power supply needed.
    • Up to two sensors on one D105 – e.g. cold and hot water lines.
    • Leak detection – a notification if flow is recorded at an unexpected time.
    • Relay control – the D105 relay can respond to flow conditions, e.g. to drive an alarm or an intermediate relay.

How does it differ from similar products?

    • NO5W magnetic sensor – Mounted on an existing water meter with a magnetic output and reads its pulses; the DN15 is installed in the pipe itself when there is no meter with an output.
    • G1/4 pressure sensor – Measures pressure via the analog input; together with the DN15 it shows both pressure and volume in the same D105.
    • mH2O level sensor – Shows the water level in a tank or well (0…10 m) via the analog input – the DN15 shows flow, the mH2O shows reserves.

    Where is it used?

    • irrigation and watering lines
    • hot water preparation circuits
    • metering for water filters and softening systems
    • cooling of laboratory and process equipment
    • water monitoring in rented premises
    • greenhouse water metering

    Use by need

    Garden or greenhouse owner.
Sees how much water each irrigation zone uses and notices a disconnected or burst hose.
    Equipment manufacturer or integrator.
Builds flow monitoring into a cooling circuit and gets a notification if flow stops.
    Water treatment installer.
Counts the volume passed through a filter and plans cartridge replacement based on actual consumption.

    Practical use

If a greenhouse irrigation system switches on automatically and the owner wants to know whether water is really flowing, the DN15 sensor on the D105 counts litres in each cycle. If there is no flow during irrigation or water flows at night, the owner receives a notification.

    Pros

    • simple three-wire connection, powered from the D105
    • high resolution – ~450 pulses/l
    • operating temperature up to +80 °C
    • max. pressure 1.75 MPa
    • two sensors can be connected to one D105
    • standard G1/2" connections

    Cons / limitations

    • the pulses-per-litre figure is approximate – calibrate against a reference volume for better results
    • not a verified water meter – not suitable for billing
    • flow up to 30 l/min – larger flows need a larger sensor or a meter with a pulse output
    • at high flow the D105 debounce setting must be reviewed, otherwise pulses may be missed

    Safety and installation notes

    • Shut off the water and relieve line pressure before installation.
    • Install according to the flow direction arrow on the body.
    • A strainer upstream of the sensor is recommended so debris does not clog the turbine.
    • Connect wires only to the D105 low-voltage terminals 1, 2/3 and 6; never to 230 V.
    • Do not exceed 1.75 MPa pressure or +80 °C temperature.

    Quick selection guide

    up to 30 l/min
    ~450 pulses/l
    G1/2" (DN15)
    5 V from D105
    Suitable when you need:
    • to meter water in a line without a meter
    • to detect a leak or stopped flow
    • to monitor up to two water lines on one D105
    Check before use:
    • that a D105 pulse input (terminal 2 or 3) is free
    • that line flow does not exceed 30 l/min
    • that pressure and temperature do not exceed 1.75 MPa and +80 °C
Important reminder: The DN15 sensor is not a commercial water meter – it is intended for monitoring and automation. It does not work without the D105, and the pulse value is worth calibrating for accurate results.
